How to "sell" a stock gift with large volume of shares sold over time
We will be receiving one gift of more than several million shares of stock. Due to the large volume of shares they will have to be sold in increments which means at different prices. Is there a way to Sell this Stock/Property gift to reflect selling smaller increments of shares at different prices but...

Re: Thx letters for stock gifts - include dollar amount?
Our board's policy is that gifts of securities be liquidated immediately upon receipt. However, Merrill Lynch has not complied, citing their alleged inability to detect a gift dropping into our account. And since donors do not necessarily give us a heads-up that a gift is on its way, a block of shares...

Report Roundup: Cash Receipts Journal
Not everyone has a Fenton Crackshell to keep track of their income, which is why The Raiser's Edge has reports like the Cash Receipts Journal, which is used to report on cash and stock/property gifts for a particular date range you specify. Like a lot of reports in The Raiser's Edge, this report...

Re: Thx letters for stock gifts - include dollar amount?
I agree with what Marla and Melissa said. Marla's example of change in value of stock has happened to us too. A separate letter for the pledge balance is what we do for multi-year pledges or those with a balance. Also, not having to include $ values in our donor receipt, means we are not responsible...

Re: Thx letters for stock gifts - include dollar amount?
We keep it simple. "...Thank you for your gift of # shares of ABC stock gifted on XX/XX/XXXX" type of thing. Has worked fine for us for many years.

Thx letters for stock gifts - include dollar amount?
Just curious - does everybody here include the dollar amount of the gift when someone donates stock, or do they treat it more like a gift-in-kind where they let the donor declare the value? Thanks for your input!

Gift Type for stock gifts?
Does anyone not use the Stock/Property Gift Type for recording stock gifts? If you select another Gift Type, can I ask why?

Gift of Shares.
We have received a gift of shares in December but the shares weren't sold until January. When I post the gift from RE to FE it debits a security asset account and credits revenue. This entry however throws out the balance sheet because there is no cash until January. Any suggestions. Thanks Jeff

Re: How do you receipt stock gifts
Laura, feel free to disagree with me but I do not recommend disagreeing with the IRS. I encourage you to call the IRS (and/or your auditors) and ask for verification as you should as a responsible non-profit understand these rules and get a professional opinion. My understanding from the IRS and from...

Stock (sold) vs. stock
Which amount do you typically use? We have both amounts in the record. Presently, when running a report on a campaign, we use the "donated" amount. How many of you use the sold amount? These reports are for the board to know how much money has been raised. This came into question because the...
