  • Re: Bilingual salutations on mailouts

In Quรฉbec, where many organisations mail in both languages, we tend to record donors' language preferences (with an attribute: French/English) so each records are set up with a single primary addressee / salutation matching the choice of language.  We ask the question on each piece of correspondance we send.  If you do ...

  • Re: Best practices for User Groups

Tracy, it sounds like many issues you mention can be addressed by "control" queries - queries you run every so and so that flag typical errors.  Most of my users have been using RE for ten years, and mistakes still happens.  I have control queries for empty language fields, "no valid" but the address type is not ...
  • Re: Automatically Soft Crediting Spouses

[quote user="Laura Caswell"] If you have a large group that you want to change, you can use Globally Change records. Checking or unchecking that box is one of the options. Just be sure you've got the correct records if you do this. I have never done this particular global change so I don't know the ins and outs of it. ...

  • Re: Exporting specific proposal information

If you pull the Proposal Contact field you will not have the duplicate issue you have in Query.  I suspect that this field is currently blank on your proposals and that is the reason why you resort to the Relationship tab instead.  If you have no choice but to go through RE:Export, you must temporarily code (or permanently code) each ...

  • Re: Query of Event Participants

I also think it is not possible to ask the question directly in query.  This type of "number of " question is generally answered in a constituent query under Summary Information and I see no summary for the Event module.  Call BB.  I suspect you will have to export all participants and manipulate the information outside ...

  • Re: Creating an Output Query through Import

Ellen: "Update existing Records"  There is a knowledgebase solution on this.  Can't recall it.  You would be using import if you have a list (previously exported from RE) that has been modified and you want to make a query of these modified records only.  For instance, you export in Excel a list of people ...
  • Re: Two databases or one?

I tend to recommend one database, especially if you need to print consolidated reports - though your tech seems to have figured this part out.  Going for two separate DBs link to the same BMC is basically a budget one.  Inquire with Blackbaud about the cost of purchasing and maintening a second DB - if you are looking for a ...

  • Columns to repeat at left

Is there a way, in Crystal, to have the same option in Excel's page setup called "Columns to repeat at left`"?  We have too many columns to even fit on a 11x17 so we need the report to print on several pages, repeating the categories at the left on each pages, with the total column on the last page.  Thanks.

  • Re: Procedure for capturing additional information that accompanys a tribute gift?

It is difficult to answer the question since I am unclear on the type of info you are tracking, but if you mean such info as, for instance, a special note to put on letter to the family, such as "From Robert and family - we are so happy for you!", you can store it in a gift note or a text attribute, depending on how you pull the ...

  • Receipt control when third party issue them

I am interested to hear from organisations which issue electronic receipts immediately upon reception of online gifts, with no "human" intervention.  What are your procedures?  How do you deal with this "broken" receipt sequence?  What are the auditors requests for control?  Our paper receipts are ...
