  • Re: Accounts Payable Invoice Approval Workflow

Not a school here, but thought a response would be helpful.  We do not use a purchase order system either, but do have procedures in place for capital expenditures that act like a PO. As to paying our bills, we set up, in advance, approval authority be department.  Only certain folks can approve expenditures.  We designed a simple ...

  • Re: Financial Edge Users

Hi Valerie,  I think it would be a mistake to go forward without having some accounting expertise involved, specially in the set-up.  If you organize your chart of accounts properly and if you utilize the Projects module, you end up with very powerful tools for tracking, reporting, etc.  If you wing it and don't get these ...

  • Re: PaperSave Users

We are just trying to get the system up and running and have experienced a lot of issues.  We currently do not know if they are problems with the software, our installation, or just our understanding (training).  I found the training that we purchased to be of little help.  We have had issues with the interface between the work ...

  • Re: Does anyone have any positive feedback about Payroll 7?

We converted in 2008, and only because we had to.  Blackbaud chose to eliminate support for the old version.   The new version does have a couple of features I like.  For instance, you can now distribute payroll taxes all the way to the project level which was not available before. In general, it is difficult to use and not ...

  • Converting from Payroll 6.4 to Financial Edge Payroll

This has not gone well for us.  We waited as long as we could because of the many issues that others were experiencing a couple of years ago all the way up until a few months ago.  Blackbaud will no longer support 6.4 after September 1st, so they are forcing the rest of us to convert.   We put the new version on a stand ...

  • Accounting Policy - Restricted Assets

We prepare budgets for most of our restricted funds. Some of the funding sources will allow indirect costs and some will not. Of course, they all love to require matching funds that somehow always seem to catch all the overhead. If we have a donor that came in from some general fund development effort that also lists a restriction, we will ...

  • Department Coding

We did it through our chart of accounts structure. xx-xxxx-xx-xxx The first two digits are the fund, such as 01. The next four digits are the account code, such as Advertising, Supplies, etc The next two digits are the department, such as Early Education and Care, or Family and Youth Issues. The last three digits are the program within ...

  • Version 7.7 & payroll 6

We have been running FE with Payroll 6 for about 2 years now. I will not convert to payroll 7 until the very last minute. No real issues with the interface, but FE 7.7 is significantly slower than Accounting For Non-profits was.

  • PaperSave Users

So what are you all doing with all those original documents and signatures? Are you just shredding them, or do you still have to store them offsite or something?

  • Reports are not that much better in FE then AFN

I don't find much improvement. There are some reports I can use right off the printer, but if I want to get in depth, I export to excel - do all the custom formatting and align the titles and rows by moving cells or columns, then manipulate the data the way I need to see it for analytical purposes. I am sure I don't use all the capabilities ...
