  • Installation of BBDM

Based on experience while installing BBDM, does anyone have any "gotchas" that we should be aware of? We just got the software and are looking at options for which machines to install the pieces on.

  • Re: Tracking Facebook involvement

I know we need to play in  the Facebook (Web 2.0) arena to stay relevant so, we've been promoting Facebook for a couple of years. This was based on an informal survey that showed many of our cadets already had selected Facebook and many more are arriving each year at the Academy with Facebook accounts already established. I ...

  • server / hosting setup

Nora, I started out using the same web server and SQL server that I was using for our old web site. I ended up putting BBNC web on a separate web server with 2 2 gig processors and 2 gigs of RAM. I put the BBNC SQL database on a dedicated servr with 4 2gig processors and 4gigs of RAM. It is much quicker, more reliable, and seems to smile a lot ...

  • Blacklisted Address.

Jim, I like the direct approach. Write an E-mail to the postmaster@ the blacklisting domain. You want to tell them you work at the recipient's alumni organization and are only contacting your members. That helps them see your legit and not a spammer. I've had god success doint this for our association. Tom

  • Using The Information Edge (TIE)

How can I point a directory part at a table created in The Information Edge created by an RE Query? My queries to RE7 are too slow for web users so, I thought using TIE would speed it up.

  • Downloading information into RE

Joe, That was included in my upfront installation. I prepared the import file (.CSV) and they uploaded it for me. They were online with me for about a half hour or so. Since you are not taking up a lot of their time, I don't see how the cost could be very high. If you look at the efficiencies you gain later on, it is well worth it. One ...

  • Downloading information into RE

Joe, I was thinking the same thing so I imported all 40,000 users and gave them an ID/password that we used on our old site. You might consider asking BB to load yours in with a derived userid and password. That way, you can send an invitation out and include their UserID and password. Tom

  • Hardware

If you have a BBNC web server and a database server of equal capacity, which sould I upgrade first to improve the response times for making updates and changes to pages. We just started to move our content into BBNC in a serious way and I find the response times to be frustrating. I have a new machine waiting to go to work and would love to hear ...

  • server / hosting setup

Karen, My recommendation is that you keep the BBNC web server as close to the RE databse server as possible. I know one school that had BBNC hosted away from their RE Database and ended up bringing it back on the same network with RE. Tm
