  • re: Social Media is a Big Waste of Time

Great topic; Timely as well.  I see a lot of non-profits (and for profits, too) who've set up a Twitter, cause everyone else has one too. Some of the roadblocks that I think exist is how to track the success of social media.  We've moved so far from the days of "I sent them a letter (appeal), they sent in a check in the return ...

  • Re: organization's relationships as individual records?

I've always adopted the thinking of "what is the harm to have an individual record for each" (contacts, event registrant, etc).  Here's the reason why.  Let say you have Sean Bryan and he is the Primary Contact for an Organization, but you only add him as a relationship, not an individual record in RE.  Let's ...

  • Event Registration with Barcode

We have a large event where I need real-time stats regarding registration check-in (how many people have checked-in, timestamp, etc) from an event we track in RE.  Essentially I want to export all registrants out of RE - import them into a software package that allows me to print a barcode next to their name (or somewhere), quickly scan it ...

  • Re: Conference '08 Newsletter

I sent a few people my ppt from last year - and I can send you the Crystal Reports from this year for those who are interested in it.  It's a lot of slides and animation.  (I have a note-free version to distribute).  I don't have any IP stuff on there.  Just bad jokes.  I'm co-presenting an import session as ...
  • Re: Welcome to NetWits Live @Portland

Here's my notes from the 10.2.08 NetWits conference:   Holly Ross, Executive Director, NTEN: The Nonprofit Technology Network had a great presentation on Social Networking.  Twitter: Following OUR followers allows us to get an insight into what our followers say and think (and tweet).  If your org has donors/constituents ...

  • Re: Bulk retrieval of Constituent ID

There's no way to do that (easily) from within RE.  But a simple solution would be to export ALL constituent ID's (and whatever other matching field you'd need) and do a simple matching query in Access. What field are you using to "match" the names in your CSV file? Regards, Joe

  • re: Tweet Overload

I agree.  Even with a program that has a 2 second "ghost" popup letting you know the latest tweet, it can be a bit much.   But as I've discovered, the excessive tweets I've experienced fall into two catagories:  One - from news orgs I follow (USA Today, LA Times Busines section, CNN Breaking News).  A bit much at ...

  • Re: Welcome to NetWits Live @Portland

Not sure who's attending, but I'll be attending Holly Ross' session about Social Media - and Chad's session on real time social web.  (I'm hoping to catch Allison's presentation at the BB conference in November, as I'd love to attend all 4 NetWits sessions - but they're running at the same time).  In the ...

  • Re: Tracking Subscriptions

We do have the membership module, but opted not to use that route, as they really aren't "members" per se if they just pay to subscribe to the publication.  We have donors who we could have used the "benefits" but I'm fine with a dynamic query to tell me which donors qualify for the publications. What we did ...

  • Re: How to change a group of queries category?

Currently there is no way to change more than one query at a time to a new/different catagory.  You can right-click on the query; that's easier than opening the query and (re)saving the query.  Regards, Joe Meehan
