  • Slowwwww Performance with Windows XP

I agree with Dan, I may suggest even 2 Gb memory upgrade, since memory is so cheap. That will solve the problem. Rao/..

  • FE Response time compared to AFN

I like the last sentence. I am not sure how much data is integrated in SB and FE, but it is a good idea to separate these systems and process transactions by batch nightly. Since hardware costs are down, it may be a reasonable solution. We use FE and feed daily a batch of transactions from our Advance system.

  • FE Response time compared to AFN

We do not have Raiser's Edge or Student Billing. We have all three modules of FE A/P, GL and Mis.Cash Receipts. I certainly believe the load is coming from SAR (Student Accounts Receivables). I do not know much about SAR or Raiser's Edge. In addition, we use MSDN not full MSSQL server. Therefore, we cannot compare Apples to Oranges. Rao/..

  • FE Response time compared to AFN

We never had any of this issue. We converted to FE almost two years ago. The hardware specs I did was dual processor at 3.06 Ghz. 4 GB memory a sleek HP Rack server. We have 7 users and 0 response time problems. The cost of the Hardware at that time was around $3,000.00. We have purchased another server as a backup server with similar ...

  • FE Response time compared to AFN

We use GL/ AP/ Cash Receipts. We had converted from AFN to FE about 18 months ago. No response time complaints. None. By selecting Microsoft from Sybase, I think BB moved a step in right direction. Here is some comparison. AFN - Compaq ML370 server - 750 MHz processor, 512 MB memory, 10 MB network with 3 routers, 50 GB Cost $ 10,000.00 Users ...

  • converting to FE

I agree that conversion might take long time because old database uses Sybase ASE and new database uses MS SQL server. Christmas break is probably a good time. More than physical conversion accuracy of data checks are important. If you are using new hardware for the migration, it will be much easier than upgrading on the same hardware system. We ...

  • Initial Security Setup

Though I am not qualified to provide any answer because our foundation has a small number of users and we use MSDE. Logically, if you use MS SQL server, can't you write samll SQL script to import the users to appropriate table(s) from a spreadsheet or CSV file? I know it is pain but it may help migrate users to logical groups. Again, I am not too ...

  • Initial Security Setup

We have converted last year to FE and I think that the conversion program converts security also. You may convert on a different machine as standalone program and test it before you finalize your schedule. We do not have much complexity in converting from Sybase ASA to MS MSDE, but I do not know much about larger databases using MS SQL ...

  • Database connections

Forgive me. I thought that you have maintenance support. I am a technical person who helps our foundation accounting staff. There are certain things specific to Blackbaud implementation for example selecting TCP port and allowing through a firewall. But in general BB installation package is good. If you are able to connect to FinancialEdge and ...

Call their general number: 1-800-468-8996 and give your site ID. You can ask for support. Just curious. Are you new to Blackbaud? The analysts are very nice and take an extra step if necessary and help you. The problem you have in fact is trivial. They will help you and provide guidance.
