Has anyone made the shift from RE 7.84 to 7.85? Any problems with the installation or actually using the new version?
I've been waiting for someone's positive reply
Have you done your update? I really want some of the features of 7.85 so we've told our (outsourced) IT guy to run the update for us. He hasn't gotten to us yet. Am hoping it will go well. (I didn't get a response either when I asked earlier so maybe no one is updating??)
We will be updating to 7.85 early next week. I'll let you know if we encounter anything. I did work with another client who is using it and the new folder-query feature is handy. Note that while you can't drop-drag queries into folders, you can right-click and put them in catagories that way - so I anticipate an hour worth of organizing to make life easier.
I usually wait to see if there are features that I really need before updating. Also, due to security rights, the deploy feature requires me to be available in case some staff have limited permissions (with our network - i.e., installing programs - not RE permissions). So that's a few hours of being available that I have to allot for.
Regards,
Joe
No, not yet. We ran out of time last week and probably won't get to until next week sometime. I'm hoping that the lack of response means that all is well.
Yesterday, we downloaded RE 7.85, so far so good - mail merges process and financial reports balance! I agree, the new category feature in query is very nice, a right-click away and you're organized!
Best,
Paula
Did the upgrade earlier this week. No real problems. The "Catagories" for queires is handy, but if I could suggest something for the next patch - it'd be great to add a drop drag feature (not sure that's an easy thing to do, to be honest) - or at least allow multiple query selections to be catagorized at once.
We noticed it glitched a few times when creating catagories. Especially when you add a few, and the use the up/down arrows to organize them. And once you right-click a query and put it in a catagory, you need to click to a different catagory and then back before you see it in that catagory. Otherwise, it looks like you didn't do anything.
It'd be REALLY nice to do that with CUSTOM REPORTS as well.
Did you know you can "silently install" RE onto a workstation? Check out the install or update PDF - and read page 33.
It's probably a good thing for your IT department to know how to do.
I upgraded over this past weekend and this morning the users are reporting a general ledger connection error. We are currently looking into why this is.
Our IT guy ran the update last weekend also. I like the query folders. Not sure if it's due to update or just the program, but RE locked up 3 times and closed down when I was trying to run some big reports for auditors. And then finally, at end of day, it just froze. Couldn't sign out or work. Hope it was an isolated incident.
We also upgraded last week and have had no problems at all. Love the categories in Query. Hope they fix the problem with it looking as if you haven't moved a query into a category. It's a bit unsettling and wasted some time trying to figure out what the problem was, but how nice to be able to do it at all.
We upgraded last night and only had a few minor issues when I was installing on each machine. On a few, the patch didn't install so I had to deploy again. A couple had security errors because they did not have the proper rights so I just signed on to their machines and installed them. I have a question about the query categories. Can users "share" a query? If I put it into one of my category folders, is it gone for other users?
Yes, users "share" all the category folders -- they appear system wide -- so they aren't really "your" category folders. It works well -- the biggest headache is that when you change an existing query's category by right-clicking and choosing the new folder, it still appears in the original location until you switch to a different folder or RE module. I'm sure they will work that glitch out eventually, but it took a few minutes to figure out what was going on.
We just upgraded as well. And the freezing and crashing has nothing to do with categorizing a merged query. At first I thought it was that too. When I started experimenting, I tried doing it just to statics and that worked fine. Then I tried it on a few different merged queries. Some it works, some it doesn't. It's kind of driving me crazy.
I completely agree about being able to select multiple queries for categorizing. If you can delete multiple at the same time, you should be able to categorize. It'd also be very useful if you could create categories within categories. That way you could use a Newletters category and then break it down by year and then by quarter. Or events broken down by area and year, etc.
