Pulling donors out of one list for different letters

HI.  I'm fairly new to RE.  I need to write letter to different donors depending on their level of giving.  One group would be major donors, another group would be to donors from the last ten years but I don't want to include the major donors (who give $250 or more).  I also need to pull out a list of students who don't fit into the other two groups.  And I also need to put out trustees from these groups!  Any suggestions??

    Thanks,

    Candy

Take a look in Mail at Quick letters.  You can first create the three queries you want (do not worry about overlap)  Then in the segment tab you can out the queries in order heirarchcally so major donors, $250+ donoprs then students.  It will put a constituent into the first group it fits and not in any below it.

If you are producing the letters in house you may be able to merge the letter(s) right there.  If the letter is an appeal you can add the appeal codes/packages for each segment to each donors records.  If sending your data to a mailhouse or if Quick Letters does not have the fields you want (it is limited) I would add it as an appeal and use these codes to query on to create an export of the donors in each segment.

Play around and practice - just remember if adding an appeal, that each time you run it it is adding another instance of that same appeal so be careful not to assign the appeal more than once.

Thanks so much, Melissa.  I will try this at work tomorrow.
