I am trying to create business rules for data entry of addressees/salutation. I thought it might be of most help if anyone knew where I could find such a document that was already established so that I can pull from it. I want this to be a comprehensive reference for staff who are entering data to ensure consistency--I am hoping it will answer all those annoying questions: "Who comes first, the man or woman? What is the couple is of the same gender?", "How do you address a women who uses a Maiden name as a middle name?" and so on.
HELP?!
Thank you!
Hi Tony,
Not sure where one can find a standard document for addresses and salutations for the States (perhaps United States Postal Service? or google search). At our Canadian-based organization, we just use a general rule of thumb, unless we hear otherwise from our donors (in which case we would check off "Edit" and manually change).
For examples:
Addressee: Mr. FName and Mrs FName2 LNameSalutation: Mr. and Mrs. LName
Addressee: Mr. FName and Mr. FName2 LName (same last name), or Mr. FName LName and Mr. FName2 LName2 (if different last name)Salutation: Mr. and Mr. LName (if it's the same) or Mr. LName and Mr. LName2 (different)
Addressee: Mrs. FName MaidenName LNameSalutation: Mrs. LName

I tried to post a chart that Gina Gerhard was kind enough to share with me in 11/07 in the shared client document section. It may not be exactly what you want but seemed like a great starting point. Good Luck!
