We have recently switched to a 4.0 system of GPA calculation. If you also use this system, do you give an increment for A+ - e.g. 99 - 100 for a given course? Perhaps a 4.1 or 4.2??

Steve, we use numeric grades only. There is a table in our student handbook that parents can use just to know if the student had an A or whatever. Our numerics are, A=90-100, B=80-89, C=74-79, D=70-73, F=69 and below. An A in a Core course gets a 1.0 credit for the year (.5 credits per semester). An A in an Honors Core course gets a extra .5 credits per year. An A in an AP Core course gets an extra 1.0 credit per year. All non Core courses get only the base credit of .5 per semester. We calculate the following GPA's: Standard (includes core and non core classes) Standard weighted (includes honors and AP plus above) Core (includes only core courses) Core weighted (above plus honors and AP) Core courses are: Math, Science, English, History, and Foreign Language. Non Core are: PE, speech, computer, art, Bible, band, chorus, debate, etc. All four of our GPA's are reported on transcripts. We end up seeing a number of students who take lots of AP courses with Standard Weighted GPA's in the neighborhood of 4.1 to 4.3.
