We are just now wading through the task of converting to FE7. Nothing like waiting until the last minute... Anyway, I'm curious whether anyone would be willing to share the latest developments to some of the posts I've read here. Any insight is appreciated! Have response times improved? Does the response time issue seem to be isolated to Student Billing and/or other modules? We aren't using SB, so the answer might make me feel better (or not...) How long ultimately did the conversion take (from inception to actual conversion of data)? Did anyone ever find out how the "grants" subset of "projects" works?

I was the person who converted our old AFNP to FE about 3 years ago. We also use AR but nothing else. The conversion of data went well in terms of problems etc once we got everything set up. However, it did take over 13 hours for the database to convert and we are not a large organization. I wasnt really expecting that. No problems, it just had to chug for what seemed forever. Runs fine now. The AR module added a few hours of conversion time as a module. All was well worth it, a very nice product. --- Edited at 10/4/2007 12:13:55 PM by Ed Griffis

We are looking at converting to FE7. Just like you nothing like waiting until the last minute. Did you setup a standalone computer and did you run the pre-conversion utility? did you have alot of problems?

We upgraded a couple years ago but did a trial migration on a standalone computer. There were numerous fussy details to iron out, but they were resolved so the final migration went smoothly as did the transition to FE7. We rarely apply major upgrades, patches, or utilities to the production server without first checking things out in a test environment - even if it's one of those cases in which a patch is needed it is compatible only with the latest version. We haven't done anything re: the conversion yet. In fact, we're actually not planning to do a conversion, but in fact to do a clean install of Financial Edge, redesign the chart of accounts, and then upload as much detail as possible through the use of import templates. Of course, that's theoretical. Once I actually can get the software installed, I'll know more about whether this will work or not. I'm actually starting to think about setting the software up on a standalone computer (because our IT guy is on vacation this week and I'm chomping at the bit to get started), and then just uninstall it once we can then get it on the server. Has anyone else approached installation/conversion like this? Netta

Hi Laura. Just wondering if you have started your conversion process yet. We just (finally) ran the pre-conversion utility yesterday, got everything cleaned up, migrated a copy of our database to a standalone server and attempted to convert. Our conversion bombed with an error message "Error converting invoices" so I created a case. We'll see where we need to go from there. Netta Evangelical Children's Home

We "converted" 2 or 3 years ago. We did a new install of FE and started from scratch also. We imported our new chart of accounts and various other things by importing. FE was originally set up on the server. This worked really well for us. We began with the start of our FY. Good luck. We have been very pleased, overall. Karen
