    Check Register

I am a financial/accounting consultant with the UUA and need assistance running a check register that actually agrees with the checks posted to the general ledger. There are so many ways and dates to use this report and I have been unable to come up with the correct combination of criteria.

Hi Do you mean you are comparing the Expense codes or Accounts Payable to the checking account ? The only way we are able to make sure the check register exactly matches GL Reports would be to keep the Invoice date the SAME as the Check date - not that the accountants like that.

You can dump the GL to excel and then sort by type of posting which then would enable you to itemize the checks posted. this could be matched to a dump of the check register to excel also. not hard to do for selected periods.

Angie, I would suggest running a query that includes check date and also check post date (2 different fields, should be the same date or at least the same month-but sometimes users make errors)

Thanks, Diane. As it turns out, the report showed an incorrect total. When I exported the check register to a spreadsheet, and added a formula, the report totaled exactly the general ledger amount, and not the report amount. The UUA IT will send them a file so they can fix it.

Thanks, Ed. When I exported the check register to Excel to facilitate the comparison, I discovered that the check register had totalled incorrectly. When I applied a formula for the total, it exactly matched the general ledger. The UUA IT will send the file to Financial Edge for correction.

Thanks, Ina. As it turns out the check register did not have the correct total. When I exported it to Excel and applied a formula to the report, the total was not what the check register showed but the amount that was posted to the general ledger. The UUA IT department will send the file to Financial Edge so they can correct it.
