    Interview questions

We will be hiring a new Education Edge user for Admissions data entry and reporting. Does anyone have suggestions for questions to ask to determine their level of comfort with databases? None of the candidates have Education Edge experience, so I am looking for ways to determine how quickly they will be able to get up to speed.

If you also expect the new person to run queries they need to understand Boolean operators, and knowing how to export to Excel and manipulate data is very important. Director of Academic Computing Services Pope John XXIII High School Sparta NJ 07871

Just to add to Anthony's post, I think a stong background in Excel is key to this position. I find the users who currently are at ease with Excel have no trouble catching on to queries, exports and reports. Those who don't just blindly run the reports that I set up for them. I had no experience at all with the BBD, I had worked in the registrar's office at the local college. Basically, I learned it all by doing, but I have a trong backround in computers. All sorts... Mac, pc, mainframe. Make sure they have a strong computer backround! Sit them in front of a computer, if they know anything at all about Microsoft Access, they will swim upstream! Good Luck!
