    Combining Receipts & Acknowledgements

The Zoological Society of San Diego is currently going through the process of implementing the Raiser's Edge. As part of our implementation, we are looking at combining our Acknowledgement Letters with our Donation Receipts. I'd be interested in hear from other companies who have done this in the past. What have your benefits/challenges been? If anyone has samples of a combines receipts/acknowledgement they'd be willing to share, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!! Travis

    Combining Receipts & Acknowledgements

Travis, A prior organization I worked for added the receipt to the bottom of their acknowledgement letters. The letter was setup as a mail merge document. The receipt also had merge codes for the gift date, gift amount and donor name (Primary Addressee in RE). The receipt was delineated from the letter by dashes so its appearance was similar to a tear-off. The bottom line of the receipt contained the standard disclaimer about no goods or services were exchanged for this donation, etc. I didn't retain a copy of the letter or receipt, unfortunately, but I could certainly recreate one if that would help you. We send an acknowledgement letter and in the footer add the following: This letter serves as your receipt for tax purposes. Boys Hope Girls Hope is a charitable 501(c)3 corporation. No Goods or Services were provided in connection with this contribution. Charitable gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Basically the body of the letter states the amount and if there are any restricitons on the way the money was spent. Ginger
