    Importing Historical Information

I am trying to import historical information from our previous system into Education Edge so that we can get ready to print transcripts. However, I am running into some issues - basically, I need to do a whole lot of prep work just to get the system ready to import the grades (i.e.: I set up academic years, progression entries, courses, schools, etc.). It is an ongoing process that is taking even longer because of all the steps that have to be done. Has anyone done anything like this before? Is there an easier way to import historical information into EE? Suggestions and/or comments? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Importing Historical Information

Tim, We did this last year. We imported 3 grade levels out of Rediker's Admin Plus. We were not real sharp on using EE at the time so we had a consultant come in and train us in the process. We imported by Semester, a grade level at a time. It took me and one other person, needed to verify accuracy, about 6 days to get this done. We went very slowly and checked and double checked everything. I am not sure it would take everyone this long. For us, it was worth the expense to have a consultant come in to help us. Norm, Thanks for your quick response. The biggest problem I am having is the "clean up" and "formatting" of the data that needs to be done before I can even think about importing it into EE. Our previous system, Win School, was pretty lax when it came to entering historical information (i.e.: the course was simply a name typed in a text field, it did not actually have to exist as a valid course in the system). That made it nice when entering, but is a bit of a pain now that EE requires the course be in the system with unique ID, etc. I am having to go back and assign ID's, etc. to the data before it will even be ready. Did you find that to be the case with you, or am I missing something? Thanks.

Tim, We found that there was a lot of cleanup of our data from Rediker as well. We had so many different people doing things their own way that it was very messy. This was time consuming but necessary. We exported our entire database to Excel and then formatted it for the import into EE. It took a lot of work but we got a clean import and have only found a couple of mistakes over the last year and a half. Norm Dunkin Landmark Christian School [Email Removed]

Norm, thank you. That makes me feel better about what I am doing with the whole "importing historical grades" process. Have a wonderful day!

Norm, How did you do it by semester? what did the import headers look like? I'm trying to do that now, but am having problems with specifying semester, etc. mike

Mike, It's been a long time since we did it. We did it by Marking Column - SEM1 and SEM2. I think we had to import Courses and Grades. It's been too long for me to remember the steps we took.
