    Payroll 7

We are considering converting to payroll 7 in the near future. I was wondering if you are still having issues with the upgrade, or have most of the bugs been worked out by now?

I have also been waiting on a vote of confidence. I hope everyone will chime in on this one and let us know how things are going.

I would advise against it at this time. I have at least 7 cases in programming and can not see a single advantage over payroll 6. It is much more difficult to use and 10 times slower.

We are also considering a conversion from our current software. About 370 employees. Can you briefly describe the 7 issues you have outstanding? And how many employees do you process payroll for? We have a subsidiary company with about 12 employess that are paid bi-weekly with checks. We really haven't had any major problems.

Our subsidiary company is on Payroll 7.

One of the most nagging issues is that when I have someone who has two pay types (ie regular and ovetime) it leaves off the information about one or the other from the pay stub. We have to write or type it on the check and this almost always raises questions from the employee. I think any payroll program should at a minimum print on the check what the employee is being paid for and the period being paid. The payroll register does not match the payroll journal when using the same criteria. We can not print labels or envelopes from the system. Calculations work when the employee works 20 hours overtime but does not work when they work 1/2 hour over. The module is full of this type of inconsistancies.

Yes, our subsidiary company has just encountered the "pay type information error". Our error occurs with regard to sick and vacation. One or the other will not print the information on the stub, only the gross wages. I did contact Blackbaud and they said they can't duplicate the problem. I agree, employees want to know what is on ther pay stub. Have you received any feedback from Blackbaud on these issues? I would think these are critical issues.

My experience so far is that when it gets sent to programming, it is like sending it to a black hole.

Terry, Are you having issues with quarterly reporting? The end of the year is just a jump and skip away, and I am also mindful of year end. In reading some of the forums, it seems that there were a lot of issues with W'2s.

Has anyone gotten the Attendance Information to print out on the check properly? We are still in the testing process and we can't get the accruded hours to add properly. Also when I pay some one Vacation or Personal hours it is not subtracting correctly or at all in some cases on the check stub.

We have alot of trouble just trying to figure out our tax deposit because the reports do not match each other. The 941 report can only be run for a quarter not for a day range like in payroll 6. I shudder to think what w2s are going to be like. By the way, we have about 270 employees.

Terry, based on what I learned in the forum, we decided to wait for a while before trying to update. I hope you have good luck with your W'2's, and I would be interested in hearing if that goes well. Thanks for your input. Barb

I have been on the payroll since Feb 2006 and it has been a battle ever since. I used Quick Books prior to going to FE with Payroll 7. The first three quarters of the year I entered each employee check into Quick Books so I could get accruate quarterly reports. I find it very hard to believe that Quick Books handles payroll tax liability better than FE, but it in fact it does! I am scared to death to try to run W2's. This payroll system is the most difficult system I have ever used! Have to attempted W2's yet? Thank goodness I only have 33 employees.

We are in the process now and it is terrible. It tells us there is an error on one or more lines for FICA and Medicare calculations but does not give any indication who is off. We have 270 employees and the only way to find the error is manually multiply the amounts until we find the culprit. I don't understand why this would happen if the program calculated the paychecks correctly in the first place. I don't have much faith in Payroll 7 at all. Maybe we should all move up to Quick Books. I don't suppose there is a report that will tell you what totals are going to print each employees W2? I haven't started to print mine yet. I've been trying to make sure I know what totals will print because I don't trust the system.
