    Stock Gifts

I am wondering how you acknowledge stock gifts. Do you include the stock highs and lows for the date of the gift or do you figure the amount of gift based on the average market value and include it in the thank you?

We "receipt" the donor using the average market value of the day the stock is transferred into our account. I make sure that I include the amount of shares, the name of the stock as well as the average market value just to be sure there were problems with the transfer. In the acknowledgement letter we strictly list the number of shares, stock name and date it was transferred to us. However we do accompany the letter with a separate sheet which describes how value is determined and has the high low and average for the day and the calculated value. This sheet has a specific statement that this is not tax advice, etc... Melissa S. Graves Databse Administrator Planned Parenthood of Connecticut [Email Removed] 203-752-2804
