    Importing Grades

I was wondering if anyone has prepared an import of student grades into the Education Edge version 7 yet. We converted to version 7 at the beginning of the school year, and importing grades is slightly different than before. Previously the required fields were Student ID, Marking column, Academic year, Course code, section, grade, credit attempted, and credit earned. Now I believe you need to create two import files, with additional fields for a successful import. Has anyone attempted this yet? We use FAWeb 7 and we have successfully and easily imported grades twice so far this year. What format is your data in? Larry

Larry, I have to ask, what format is your data in? I have hit a brick wall with Blackbaud about importing historical grades - essentially it doesn't work at all, I am using a csv file, and the import does not allow for import to specific terms, which screws up report cards, transcripts, and GPA calculations. It's a total mess (hopefully someone from Blackbaud sees this and responds - not with a link to your useless Knowledge base answer)! We paid good money for a product that was sold as a solution (I don't know how many times I heard, yeah it can do that). Any help would be appreciated.

We went through this process a couple of years ago. It was very difficult, and critical, so we decided it would be best to spend some money on a Blackbaud consultant to come onsite and train us on the process. I learned a lot from the consultant. I have not done this since so I don't remember the details of the process. I just know that I was pleased with the support the consultant gave after she trained us and left. Actually, I am attempting this now. It has been a long process, but I believe I am having some success. For us, we had to create 6 different files in order to eventually import grades into EE. Everything builds on each other in EE. You can't import the grades until you have imported the student courses, and you can't do that until you have the grading information set up, and you can't do that until you have the courses themselves and the academic years set up. If you are interested, when I am done with my process and have the files that I used for my imports I can let you take a look at them. It will still be a few days before I know if everything works, though. // Tim Morrill
