Allocations Manager

We are in the process of converting to Financial Edge and are excited about using allocations manager to handle the earnings on our endowed funds. We have about 50 endowed funds with differing restrictions. The earnings of some funds go for a specific scholarship, the earnings of others go to the more general category of student aid and still others have unrestricted earnings. We are looking for advice on how to handle this within allocations manager. Further complicating this is the language in our fund agreements which reads "at the end of each annual accounting period, an amount up to 5% of the corpus of the fund, as existing at the end of each annual accouting period, will be made available for use for XYZ. Any remainder shall be invevested in the corpus to order to increase the value of the endowment." Help! Carolyn Rhode

Carolyn, We converted to the Financial Edge in 2004 and still have not found an easy way to allocate earnings to our funds. We are partially using the allocation module to allocate funds but it is still a very manual and somewhat inconsistent process for us. Have you found a way to effectively use the allocation manager to allocate earnings? Just wondering if you found a solution. Help! Bryan Hazel --- Edited at 5/9/2006 4:21:53 PM by Bryan Hazel

Bryan, We are using the allocation manager to allocate our earnings. Not all of the earnings are allocated to each project or fund. The way we segregate those funds is by using an attribute for each fund. I determine my basis by allocating to projects that have a specific attribute. Overall, I have been pleased with the allocation module. I hope that helps. If you want to talk in more detail you can call me at (208) 426-2346. Kathleen Patlovich Boise State University Foundation

    Re: Allocations Manager

Our Foundation has just purchased and installed Financial Edge your information on allocation management is helpful.

Many of our funds have different earning percentages. So using an attribute to connect to is a great idea.
