    New to Development

I have worked in non profits for a while, but recently I switched to the development side. I received my first tribute gift and was wondering how you notify the person which whom the tribute is for. Any examples of how others handle this will be wonderful. Thank you, Becky Sommer Foundation and Development St. Charles Community College

Hi Becky, I've always used a notecard that can be put thru a printer, using a calligraphy font, that reads something like: A gift to ABC College ¶has been made in your honor ¶by ¶Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, ¶street, ¶city/state/zip. I center the message as one would an invitation, i.e., the above message would be printed on 6 lines. Roberta Bell Hourigan Institutional Advancement Heritage Harbor Museum

We use the mail module and run letter stating a gift was made in tribute. We also generate a list of names of donors for the honoree or memorialized so they can send thank you letters. We provide the address just not the gift amount. We receive memorial gifts and many times more than one comes in. The family should always know who has sent gifts. If you want to know how we prepare this list let me know. We use RE. [Email Removed]
