    Please Join the Colorado Professional Researchers for Advancement for our 2005 Winter Symposium Monday, February 7, 2005 Colorado History Museum 1300 Broadway Ave. Denver, CO 80203 Our 2005 Winter Symposium is planned to meet the needs of professional development researchers and analysts as well as major gift officers and other front-line development officers. Our curriculum is especially helpful to research professionals who are preparing for a supervisory and leadership role in their respective development offices. One of our major goals in planning the symposium is to show how research fits into the overall mission of the development office. Agenda: 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Registration with Continental Breakfast Served 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Strategic Planning for the Research Office by Shelby Radcliffe McClintock 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Luncheon Catered by Three Tomatoes Catering with Roundtable Discussion Groups 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Major Gifts and Research by Lawrence Henze 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. Wrap Up and CPRA Announcements and Chapter Meeting 4:00 p.m. Adjourn Curriculum: Strategic Planning for the Research Office - A thorough examination of the strategic planning requirements for the modern research office making use of the latest information technology and assuring that adequate resources are available for the growth of the research function. Change and progress are staples of the advancement research profession. Developments in technology and the evolution of the fund raising field continue to give advancement researchers new challenges and new opportunities. In this session, Shelby will present strategic planning strategies that will help you take advantage of these opportunities in your own organization. Learn to build and maintain peak performance in your advancement research operation with advice gathered from the best advancement researchers, consultants, and human resource professionals who specialize in change management and strategic planning. Expanding Our Vision of Major Giving -- Dare to go beyond the limitations of mere research by creating processes and implementing strategies to help drive your fundraising operation in an organized and timely way. From new prospect identification to cultivation and solicitation activities, you'll learn the basics of prospect development, including strategies for identifying and evaluating a proactive flow of new prospects, focusing development officers' limited time and resources on their very best prospects, establishing a moves management system, and assisting in strategic planning processes related to campaigns and special initiatives. Faculty: Shelby Radcliffe McClintock has been Director of Prospect Research and Management at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA since 1998. Elected to the APRA Board of Directors in 2000, she currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer. Prior to her service on the APRA board, Shelby served as vice-president and program chair of PREP/APRA (the eastern Pennsylvania chapter of APRA International), editor and writer for APRA Connections, APRA mentor, and APRA Conference Track Chair (for 2000 and 2001). Shelby was the Keynote Speaker for the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Researchers Conference (MARC) and the conference chair and faculty member of both the 2003 and 2004 CASE Conference for Development Researchers, receiving CASE Faculty STARS for all of her presentations. Shelby has presented at the APRA International Conference every year since 2000 APRA and speaks regularly for APRA and AFP Chapters around the country on a variety of topics, including research ethics, Internet research, database screening, researching individuals, and PUSH technology. She has also spoken at regional PREP/APRA events and every year at the Mid-Atlantic Researchers Conference. She is an APRA Foundation Margaret Fuhry Grant winner, a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and has worked in prospect research since 1997. Lawrence Henze, JD, is managing director of Blackbaud Analytics and has extensive experience in fundraising, market research and the application of predictive modeling services to the nonprofit marketplace. The founder of Core Data Services, which Blackbaud acquired in 2001, Lawrence has also served as vice president of predictive modeling services at USA Group Noel Levitz and president of The Philanthropic Division of Econometrics, Inc. Lawrence has 15 years of experience in development, raising more than $125 million, primarily for higher education institutions. He holds a BA in political science from Carroll College in Wisconsin, and an MA in public policy and administration and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
