    Selecting the appropriate fields for entering data

    Hello All, I very new to RE and hope that you can provide advice. Each year my foundation has its own fund raising event. We would like to keep track of our participants in the most efficient way possible for all the years that the event takes place. So the event has many years with many participants with each participant playing either at least one or many roles. Have any of you faced a similar problem in organizing your data and how did you solve it? And has the solution worked? Looking forward to hearing from you. And thanks in advance.

    Thanks for responding Denise.

    We have recently purchased the Events Module but have never used it.

    Specifically, the name of the Event is "Visions" a gala event with both a silent and a live auction. It has taken place every year and is expected to take place once per year in the future. The participants can be a Guest and/or a Committee Member (2 types), a Sponsor, and/or a Donor of an item for Auctioning. Their roles can change from year to year.

    The Event module appears to designate participants as only registrants, sponsor and guests. Consequently the staff are thinking of using the attribute fields to identify our participants.

    I'm looking for feedback as to what approach will be the most effective in the long run.

    To further define roles, I use partcipation (located under the solictor field in the partcipant's record) to record this information. I have choices such as Attendee, Speaker, Staff, Corporate Sponsor, Volunteer, Vendor, Coordinator, etc. You can have as many choices as needed.
