Are you ready for this? I am working at a new organization - recently I adjusted a pledge per the Director's request. Finance came back to me and said I can not change previous pledges at all - even though I had an adjustment report to giver her. She wanted me to call BB to find out what to do which I refused since the answer is "to make an adjustment" - so i decided I would ask here if anyone makes adjustments/changes to pledges without doing an adjustment. I've been using fundraising software for 20 years and have always just done an adjustment.

I think you may need to sit down with finance dept and discuss why they don't want you to do an adjustment.  An adjustment is the way to do what you described.  I have had to work with our business department when I've needed to adjust a posted pledge from a closed, audited financial period.  They will let me know if they want a current GL adjustment post date or want it at end the closed financial period for which they then need to run posting/adjustment to GL again.  Hopefully they can work with you on it.
