Version 6.10 is swell, except for the fact that it automatically logs you out after 20 miniutes - even whe you are actively working in it! Here is the response I got from my complaint. "I do apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. Supervisor users enter a session upon logging in. The session expires after 20 minutes. Users will need to login again after that 20-minute session expires. Also, work may be lost if the session expires before content is saved, so users should be mindful of their time, and perhaps set a timer on their workstation to notify when the session is about to logout, so content can be saved. This is a security feature and the 20 minute session timeout will not be changed."
IMHO, this is just plain dumb and completely unnecessary, not to mention annoying as all get out. Since I don't normally keep a timer on my desk, I found on online at http://www.online-stopwatch.com/full-screen-stopwatch/. Hope this helps you other poor souls working with BBNC.
That's absurd!
Great! Yet another BBNC function that makes working on the system 20 times harder than it ever should be. I would suggest something more ridiculous than this new "feature" but I think that BB have outdone themselves and reached the ceiling on ridiculous and completely pointless ideas!!??
Now, logging out after 20 minutes of inactivity would still be annoying but at least understandable...
Worst idea ever! I'll be using that stopwatch, thank you. We just upgraded 2 days ago and I discovered the log out problem. Yes, BB...it's a PROBLEM!! The decision "for security reasons" to log out ACTIVE supervisor users is baffling! I have yet to find someone wanting SO BAD to work in BBNC that they're willing to knock me over & take my computer to do it.
I wonder if they took into account that some schools don't have top technology and some times it takes longer to load images, parts, etc. We're redesigning our site and the expectation that one can create, load & insert all it takes to make a great page (in less than 20 mins) is ABSURD.
Don't we go through enough hoops? Now they want us to do it all in 20 mins or less.
I'll be officially be lodging my complaint. Ugh.
Isn’t it supposed to have something to do with the new Credit card security rules? That OK if it was 20 mins of inactivity. We have lost a lot of time dealing with the logout. We now copy the HTML before saving since we don’t know if it going to logout on us.
I too am at a loss as to why it is done this way. At least a message that lets you know you will be logged off would be VERY helpful. I have lost some lovely new pages I was creating and also some detailed revisions. Also, if we are going to be logged out, it would be helpful to have a 'save and continue' option in the editors, so we could save frequently without having to exit and then go back in to the edit mode again.
Are you self-hosted or hosted by Blackbaud?
Beyond Nines has a free custom part you can download and install to get around this:

Best,
Glen
Will it work if you're hosted by Blackbaud?
Nope.
Blackbaud hosting doesn't support custom parts because it's a shared hosting platform. Or at least not custom parts that they themselves don't make. An independent hosting provider might be more flexible in supporting customizations.
Your other option is to upgrade to 6.10 or 6.15.
We are on 6.10 and our experience is that if you check the Remember Me box when logging in you will not have this issue.
