I have a situation where we had media partners that have given university free advertising on a local business digest- Can it be recorded as GIK?
and I am curious to know if anyone has a system of coding this type of situation in RE7. It is a squishy sort of GIK -
Thank you for your help.
I work for a not-for-profit organization. We are required by the IRS to report all gifts in-kind on our 990. We use Raiser's Edge 7 and Financial Edge 7.
We have several events throughout the year that provide us with gift in-kind sponsorships for services from that sponsors. For instance, a media sponsorship. The gift in-kind value is $5,000 for services of advertising in the local newspapers or radio, etc. The gift is recorded as a gift in-kind. The Gift Date is the date I receive the sponsorship form, e-mail, phone call, etc. The GL Post Date becomes the date that either I received the actual item or when services are completely rendered. For the media sponsor, we receive advertising before, during and after the event. So, once the after the event services have been rendered, that becomes my GL Post date and that is also when their gift becomes receiptable.
There are several options for reporting, recording, etc. If you would like to discuss in further detail, I'd be happy to give you my suggestions and practices. Thanks, and good luck.
