GPA Calculations when Weighting by Translation Table on Marking Column - ??

We have decided to weight our AP and Honors classes by associating translation tables with marking columns for these courses.

From the User's Guide, it appears as though I can still run both weighted and unweighted GPA's this way. I have created 3 tanslation tables (Standard, AP and Honors) and within each, I have set up both weighted and unweighted GPA values. Do I need to create three separate GPA calculations and check the box "Translate Using" and then choses Standard, AP or Honors Translation Table? I have chosen either "Weighted" or "Unweighted" as the "GPA Type" on the calculation. But do I need to associate each Table to a separate Calculation? What happens if this box is left unchecked? Will it translate using any or all Tables? Can't seem to find this in Knowledgebase or Guides.

You wouldn't necessarily want to check the box for "translate using" when running a GPA calculation on a 4.0 or 5.0 scale. Choosing to translate results will change the 4.0 scale number back to the numeric grade equivalent - if the student has a 4.0 GPA it would be changed back to a 100 (or A).

If you're weighting GPA's on the translation table, and the GPA types are associated with your course records, this should be sufficient to get a GPA value.

Let's say a student has 2 courses(Honors and Standard) and in both courses he received B's. On your translation tables for your Unweighted GPA, a Standard course B=3.0 and an Honors course B=3.2.

When you run the calculation for the student, you have an option to show calculations on the report. What you should see is: [(B=3.0) + (B=3.2)] = 6.2 / 2, which gives a GPA of 3.1.

The same would hold true when you run the calculation for the Weighted GPA, except the values would be slightly higher if you weighted them higher on the translation.

You might want to set up one student with grades and run a calculation to test the values. This is the easiest way to find out if the GPA calculates a value that you're looking for, and prevents a rush down the road when GPA's are due for all students.
