I have been away from RE for a few months. I can't remember how to do the following:
Create a list (query) of constituents that I would like to perform further queries on
I know I have to create a CSV file and use Import and select Output Query, but I am unsure of what to select for 'What do you want to do?' I do NOT want to change/update any existing records in RE - simply create a list of constituents that I can use to make further queries.
Thank you.
I may be missing something. If the constituents are all presently in RE, why would you need to do an import to get a query? The purpose of import would be to change/update records - if you're not doing that how could you generate an output query of records changed/updated???
Is there a reason you just can't create a query of the constituents you want to perform further queries on? If your additional queries are not done in RE, then run an export of the query. In RE, you can add additional criteria to your query as you further query and save the query with a different name.
Is there more you can share on why you want to use an import?
Ellen: "Update existing Records" There is a knowledgebase solution on this. Can't recall it.
You would be using import if you have a list (previously exported from RE) that has been modified and you want to make a query of these modified records only. For instance, you export in Excel a list of people who were invited to an event. RSVP are entered in Excel as they come in (easier). Then I re-import only the RSVPs IDs. I use the query created through the import for a global change to mark them as "RSVPs" in RE.
That solution number is BB124766.
I don't know if you've seen this thread, but it also EXTREMELY useful http://www.blackbus.org/forum/query-import-export/5039-copy-paste-information-into-raisers-edge-query.html
ThanksLee

Ellen- I use this function quite often when departments give me lists of people who received invites, appeals, newsletters, or attended events, etc...
and I love it! Save the list of IDs as a csv file (just the ID field-no other info). Go to Admin/Import/Constituent/Constituent and select "New". What do you want to do? Check Update existing records (don't worry this will not actually make any changes to the records). Select whether this is the import ID or the constituent ID. Select "delimited format". In file layout, select "Comma" & Text qualifier "none" and select whether or no the sheet includes field names. Go to the Fields tab- map ID number. Go to the Summary tab and select "Create an output query of the records updated". Hit Update now and name your query (I also create an exceptions file by selecting that option). I have this saved as a standing import called "Constituent IDs for Query" so I can just link to the new csv file and run it each time. Then just look up the query.

Ellen, I use this function all the time! You select Update Existing Records & map only the ConsID field.
