Making a deceased constituent's record "inactive"

    Hi!

I am new to this forum but think it is a great idea!  I am just starting to really understand all the capabilities of Raiser's Edge, but can not figure out how to make a deceased constituent "inactive" so that he does not show up in all my querys for mailing lists that are based on past giving.

can anyone point me in the right direction?  I have looked all over the Bio 1 and 2 pages... there is no "inactive" button.  i am not sure when he died, but I do have a Deceased box that I can enter a date in.

    thank you anyone for help!!1

When you run a query/report or most of the functions you have the option to include/exclude constitutent marked as (1) inactive, (2) deceased and/or (3) no valid mailing address.

When you create your query, at the top of the criteria tab window are these three check boxes. They default to 'include' so just uncheck the box marked 'include deceased constituents.'

If you truly want to mark him as 'inactive' it's a check box near the bottom center of the bio 1 tab.

I would also recommend that you use the inactive and deceased check boxes as intended. I often visit organisations that use these boxes interchangeably, but their purpose is very different.  If you have marked a constituent as deceased, they do not need to be inactive as well!

Inactive should be used when a constituent has specifically been asked to have no further contact with your organisation, alternatively it can be used when your organsation wants no further contact with that constituent.  This could also be followed up with an action or notepad which explains why this constituent has been marked as inactive for future reference.
