    Donor Advised Funds

Say a gift is made by the Fred and Nancy Smith Family Fund and it comes in through the Community Foundation.  The gift is on the Community Foundation's record and the Fred and Nancy Smith Family Fund is soft credited.

When we prepare an invitation list to an event - we don't necessarily want to invite the Community Foundation but Fred and Nancy Smith.

How do other organizations prepare an invitation list - do you always include soft credits not to miss anyone?

Usually these only occur on what we like to term as major gifts. How I manage it would be like this:

    Gift on Community Foundation record

Soft Credit to Fred & Nancy Smith personally (or their foundation if that is what the Community Foundation states on their paperwork)

Community Foundation would be coded Do Not Invite under solicit codes

Fred & Nancy Smith (or their foundation record if they don't have a personal one) would have a Giving Level Attribute on their account indicating that they were a member of a special giving level group that would be invited to things, etc.

We would book the gift to the Community Foundation with a reference note of the Fred and Nancy Smith Family Fund.  Soft Credit Fred and Nancy's individual record.  When I pull for mailings I include all soft credits on the individual list. Fred and Nancy Smith would get an invitatio at their home.  I pull Corporations, Foundations, Orgs on a second list. That way I can ask for the main contact(s) and it can be reviewed by our Corp/Fdn person.  He often forgets to tell me contact changes and this would be hen I can get the new names from him.  If I did not want anyone from the Community Foundation, I would have the record flagged no mail, but truthfully, we always invite the contacts at our Community Foundations.  Good will and keeping our name in front of them.  They just seldom attend.
