    Changing Translation Table Calculations

Does any one know if a Translation Table calculation is changed (say Honors GPA is changed from +1 to +0.5) does this effect any past records or is it only going forward?

    Re: Changing Translation Table Calculations

    Hi Kimberly,

I haven't seen any other responses so I thought I would share some information about an issue experienced by some of my clients who have changed the values in their Translation Tables.

If Tara is currently a senior at your school and last year she took Honors English, when you run a GPA calculation for her, the system will now see the A that she received as a 5 (assuming that you previously would have had it at a 4.5 instead of 4.0 for standard courses because the course is associated with the Honors GPA TT instead of a the one used for standard classes) and will use that value when it calculates her Cumulative GPA.  If you wanted to change or 'correct' the values that she received and that were stored in her student record for her GPA for any given Marking Column, you can run the GPA calculation parameter and just confirm that the calculation on which it is based has the option to Overwrite checked; otherwise, the previous marking columns will reflect the values that were in place at the time the calc was originally run while the *** that you run this year will use the current values.  As you can imagine, this caused some frustration for parents, students and faculty so I would recommend that your school have a very clear and thought out plan on how you will approach the process and handle students who already have grades for those courses (including alumni).

I hope you find this information helpful and have a great weekend,

    Naomi
