Moving SQL Server to new box

Does anyone know if there is a way to move Raisers to a new server. Will i have to visit each machine and reinstall or can i just detach the databse from one server and attach it on the new one and everyone will find it.

     Hi Chris,

If the database server is completly seperate from the server with the Blackbaud Management Console then you'll only need to:

    • Backup the database with the Blackbaud Management Console
    • copy the backup or mdf/ldf files to the new SQL machine
    • detach the now "old" database through the Blackbaud Management Console
    • attach the backup/database files (now on the new SQL Server) using the Blackbaud Management Console

As long as the Blackbaud Management Console was used for the detach/reattach, your workstations should pick up on this change automatically.

However, if the machine that has the Blackbaud Management Console is getting replaced, all workstations may need to be reinstalled in order to get linked up with the new server.

http://www.blackbaud.com/esupport/esupport.asp?resource=&number=0&id=BB114770 covers the overall steps if you need to move the Blackbaud Management Console to a new server.

     Hope this helps,

    -Sean
