Return Rate for Members paying specific dues amount

I have tried everything to figure it out myself and I am about to go blind doing so....

At our Family membership level, dues are $60 but occassionally we offer discounts to joining members.    I need to figure out how to pull only those who joined in 2008 that paid $60 and then find out the return/renewal rate.

I have run more than a few queries on this using different variations of History gift dates and joined dates and Current joined dates and only wind up with duplicates of those who renewed in the same year (joined in January or February of 2008 and renewed in December of 2008).    I need specifically only those that paid the $60 dues in 2008 and even if they renewed in 2008, I still need only the dues that relate to when they first joined.   Unfortunately our appeals do not help in this matter, because at the time we didnt not use different sets of appeals or references to seperate joins from renewals.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, even if you tell me I am screwed   Stick out tongue
