Both - IT needs it but I absolutely need it to do ad-hoc backups prior to any global changes/adds/deletes.

IT only, for us. When I need an adhoc backup, I contact them. Our DBAs are pretty responsive.

IT only for us. I get called directly by the people who need the ad-hoc backup and can usually do it right then.
