We are new to RE and are setting up our constituents in the Membership Module. We are a healthcare foundation and are using this module to track membership in various boards and volunteer groups. We have times when the member is the spouse and thus not a constituent. I am trying to determine what others are doing? Do you make the member the primary constituent or do you give them their own constituency record? If you make the primary, what do you do when both are members of a group? If you give them their own record where do you post their gifts??
If an individual is a member, they should have their own constituent record as you will need this to manage mailings, attach gifts and record attributes.
If the membership is a couple membership, then the primary member should definitely be a constituent, but the secondary member, unless they are at a different address, does not need to be a constituent, unless you are approaching them separately.
Gifts in all circumstances should be added to the primary member's record and soft credited to the spouse if they have one who is a constituent and part of that membership.
Just reading that through and I hope it makes sense and in some way helps!
Thanks. It does make sense.
