Does anyone here do this? We are looking for a relatively painless way of checking the daily admit list against those within our database without manually checking the 30+ people. We were thinking of doing some sort of test-import, and whoever excepts out would be someone to manually check. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for the help!
We check the inpatient list twice a day but don't have to do it manually . We have a "trailblazer" attribute code that includes members of our giving society, board members, executive management team, high-end prospects, etc. I have coded the hospital patient database (Meditech) with the same code and that triggers a special inpatient list that only includes those patients when they are admitted. I had to work closely with our IT department, and they created the field in Meditech that I use to do the coding. I also had to run this by our compliance officer to be sure that it doesn't violate HIPAA. As a side note, several of us who are familiar with our donors/prospects also read the full admission list every day just to be sure there are no patients who should be visited but who do not have the trailblazer code. Good luck with this -- it's worth the effort.

One method that many organizations use is with a plug-in that I wrote called IDLookup. You supply a list of names, addresses and other biographical data and the plug-in looks up the person in The Raiser's Edge. That way you do not need to import anybody into RE to check that they are already there and you can customize the criteria for looking people up to get better matches. You can see a demo of the plug-in here or download a fully working version tied to the sample database here.
Feel free to contact me if you need any more information.
