I am exploring the possibility of making the Constituent ID identical to a college-wide ID. Are there any institutions out there which have set R.E. to have Constituent IDs manually assigned (instead of automatically generated)? If you have, have you encountered problems down the road? What are the disadvantages of having a manually assigned Constituent ID? Thank you.

Hi. We have the system manually assign IDs so that everyone has one. If someone is already in the central university's system, we use the ID # from the central system when we create the record. If they aren't yet in the central system, RE assigns a number and we then go in later and replace the RE # with IDs that match the ones in the University's central system. We don't use these IDs much, so we haven't had any problems with our system. As a complete aside, I am from Vancouver, BC, and am now living in LA.
