I have faculty that can not get full access from home. They each seem to have a different issue as well.

One teacher gets Null when trying to enter assignements from home

Another logs in as herself and some items are greyed out, but when she logs in as another teacher, she has full access...

Any clear way to set a standard for access?

Grades miscalculating in FAWeb

A few of our teachers are having problems with their gradebooks. In one example, the teacher wasn't using categories at all, just points, and the average for the marking period was wrong for some students. I deleted one of their grades and retyped it and magically it corrected itself. I wish I understood why the program does this! In another example, a teacher was using categories and had incorrect category averages. His lab average for a few students was 1000. How can you have a percentage over 100? This teacher didn't use any extra credit either. Again, I retyped the lab assignments and the problem was solved. Some of his student marking period averages were wrong too. This time retyping their grades wasn't working, so I retyped the category averages and it worked. Both of these teachers are Mac users, not sure if that has something to do with it. Any suggestions? Branding FAWeb

I'm wondering of it is possible (and supported) to brand certain aspects of FAWeb to more closely match our existing website. I've got FAWeb wrapped in an <iframe> and it works well. I'd like to take it a step further and remove the top left image (Students/Reports/etc) from each page. It would also be helpful to change the menu bars from blue to green. Are these things that I can simply comment out of a chunk of existing code, perhaps edit a key CSS file? I did a quick search but didn't see anything.

Faculty Access Intranet or Internet?

I'm wondering if most of the FAFTW users implement the program in an Intranet context to facilitate management (no need to install client software on each machine) or through the Internet and if so, how you set it up to work through the firewall (if you have one)? Frequency of grade inputs

Howdy, We are gearing up to learn/use Faculty Web Access. I've tried to see what other schools are doing with this in terms of how often they expect teachers to post and parents expect to read that isn't overburdensome to the staff. Do you have any information on the frequency of updating/posting... that may be of use? Thanks, Steve

Restoring of lost assignments in FAWEB7

One of my teacher's lost QTR1 assignments within FAWEB due to a change in grading categories. Now I need to restore. We use EE, FE and billing. I cannot access the data on a standalone and am told I cannot export this info. I'm told I need to setup another Web Server and restore all my old data to get a printout. Anyone have any similar situations or ideas? I'm very concerned about restoring and integration issues.

Errors in FAWeb7

Several faculty have been getting stack errors and other errors when jumping from class to class. It does not happen with everyone. I have tried everything from deleting user profiles in Windows thinking that something went corrupt with IE to trying alternate web browsers like Firefox and continue to get errors. There is definitely a server related issue, but not sure what. I'm curious as to know if anyone else has ever experienced this problem and what was done to cure it.

vanishing comments

Permission Denied error

After installing Raiser's Edge 7 to our Blackbaud server we are now getting an error when attempting to log into faculty access for the web. All databases are on the same server. We also did some windows patches. The error is Permission denied. Any ideas? Deb Case

non-IE browsers

Like so many others, we've been slammed with Spyware issues and have been moving our faculty to Mozilla's Firefox browser since it is a much better browser (faster, more secure, standards-compliant, more features) than Internet Explorer. We can use Firefox to get into Faculty Access, but once logged in, selecting an option (any option) brings up a "loading" message but the page never finishes loading. We have cookies enabled and although Firefox blocks pop-ups by default, I've configured it to not block anything from our Faculty Access site. The problem persists. Two questions: 1) Has anyone had any luck getting Faculty Access to work with a non-IE browser? 2) Blackbaud tells me they do not provide support for FA on anything other than IE. Microsoft hasn't done any development on IE (aside from patches) for years since they are focusing on it as a component of their new OS (Longhorn?), and there are so many other much better browsers out there now (Mozilla/Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Safari, Konquerer,etc.). Is there interest among other users to ask Blackbaud to support modern web-standards-compliant browsers rather than out-of-date, non-standard, buggy IE? Darlene Dralus Franklin Road Academy

Mac access

We are implementing FAWEB for the first time this Fall and it works fine for our PC users but not for our Mac users running OS 8.x-9.x. When the user clicks on the gradebook, a "loading" message comes up and hangs there. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this? The Macs are running IE 5.1. Barbara

Posting grades from Microsoft Terminal Server

When the secretary posts grades from home using Microsoft's Terminal Server, she gets Database Already Exists error. It's strange because she can post once without error, but her account must be reset each time for her to be able to post again. Has anyone else had this problem?

Posting grades to multiple marking periods

We have classes which are 1 quarter in length for marking period 1 and the grades were posted to MP1. We also posted them to SEM1 & FNL. The problem is that we can't change the posting status to Posted. We get an error message that says there aren't any valid grades. Anyone else out there have a solution for this? Blackbaud's suggestion is to leave them alone and not worry if the grades are left as "Ready" to post. Barbara Kingswood-Oxford School

Export Import Feature

I see from the BB knowledge base that at someone(s) else put in a new feature suggestion for faculty to be able to export their rosters out of faculty access and import back in their grades and comments...this so they could work offline (something that would be faster, cost less for those with limited dial-up access, and be less prone to losing work.) Please drop me a line if you put in for this feature too or if it would benefit your school. I'd like to brainstorm what the best implementation would look and work like for faculty. FAWEB IE SCRIPT ERRORS

Faculty have been getting occasional but deadly alternating 'line 86' and 'line 31' IE script errors when clicking on an active comments button in the faweb gradebook. They have to exit from faweb and log back in to be able to get access to that student's comment text field. BB tech support (Eric Marriott) is currently working on the problem to no avail so far. I understand that at least one other school is getting the same errors. Are you at your school? Any idea what specifically happens leading up to the error? Thanks in advance for any info on this! Custom Progress Report for FAWEB

Has anyone created a custom Progress Report for FAWEB showing the Category Averages using the EA Open Database module. We are a standard based school and need to print progress reports for our students showing how they are doing in each category (we use a category to represent a standard). Ideally, the report will show us: The students name Each course that the student is enrolled in with the Teacher’s name The categories (or standards per each course) The over all course average for the course Each teacher can print this report through FAWEB. However, we would have to manually collate them for each student. So we would like to run a Crystal report to give us the desired collated copy for students. The FAWEB teacher’s student reports present the data in a 100% scale for category averages. We also need to convert the 100% scale to a 1 to 4 point scale, which is what our standards are based on. This should be doable via a formula in a query to extract the aforementioned data. We have a short time frame, 2 days as of today, 10/14/03, to get our progress report out. Invalid login after upgrading FAWEB and AORO

I created a case of the following and would like to know if any other schools had the same issue .... Upgraded FAWEB to 1.02.54 and AORO last Thursday. I've posted earlier that faculty do not see any classes listed (My Schedule -- no classes assigned) appears and am hoping for a solution on that. I am in on Sunday to check how all is working internally and when Supervisor or user logins, the error message is invalid user or password!! The connections are all working as I can login to Blackbaud Configuration etc. I can change passwords, but yet, the new passwords don't work either. Call Network Manager and we brainstorm what the issue could be and finally think that perhaps we need to restamp the FAWEB database with the license ... we do that and now users can login. This did not resolve the issues with no classes being scheduled. HOW VERY IRRITATING THAT THE FAWEB IS DOWN DURING A CRITICAL GRADING TIME AND NOT ONE WORD WHEN DOING THE UPGRADE THAT THE SCHOOL WOULD NEED TO RESTAMP FAWEB. The only reason we did the upgrade so close to the grading time (grades are due on Tuesday) is that I received a personal email that the caluclations if using total points, could result in the wrong calculations -- that is huge. OK, we had to do the upgrade .. but I can't imagine we are the only school that experienced either of the above problems. Why can't Blackbaud be proactive in sending another email to all schools and explain these problems might or will happen. Even if you don't have a solution, knowing it is an issue is important.
