New Timetable after Academic Year Created

After creating the new 09-10 academic year and entering all student course requests, we have decided to change our schedule. Initially, I created a new timetable & patterns until I realized that I cannot change the timetable that already exists in the session unless I delete all of the scheduling information - including the course requests. The only other option I can see is to edit the timetable that was in use last year.

Are there any problems that will come up down the road if I edit last year's timetable? Are there other options that I'm not aware of.

The master schedule has been created in a separate programme and I need to manually schedule it in Education Edge. How is this done? Can anyone tell of problems they have run into?

Master Scheduling - 1st Time Attempt Inquiry

Hello. Our school is preparing to use Blackbaud for the scheduling for the first time. Historically, we have always used a paper schedule and manually moved things around for days until the schedule is "almost" right - just to wait for the first week of classes to see. Our hope is the Blackbaud can help automate the process and give us not just a schedule, but options for schedules. We are an Upper School of about 250 with much larger Middle and Lower Schools. We would like to begin just with the Upper School. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on what information we absolutely need to get into Blackbaud vs. what information would be helpful to make the process more successful. Any suggestions would help.

My high school became a IB school this current year and now we need to modify our bell schedule. We are thinking of redoing our bell schedule for next year. We currently have a straight 8 period day. Looking at a 7 or 8 day rotating schedule or a modified block. Any sample schedules out there I could look at?

Rooms - different rooms, same class

If a class meeting in several different periods over an eight-day cycle, and one of those meetings / periods is in a DIFFERENT CLASSROOM from all the others, how can this be entered without changing the room for all meetings / periods? Any time I try to change just one period's meeting room, all the other change over, too. Please help, thanks.

Balancing Sections - help please!

Hi. We are new Blackbaud users at The Pingry School in NJ. Would like to ask a question about balancing sections.

We have two sections of the same course running at the same time. We have played with targets (min/target/max), we have made sure we checked the box that said "Balance Across Sections" during the GSS process. Still, however, we end up 2 kids in one section and 14 in another - even though the sections meet at the exact same time. I know that we can balance this by hand, but when the schedule process is not working "perfectly," it makes us wonder if there is something a) we are not doing correctly or b) that the process could be doing better across the board if it is not doing this well. Any help/advice/thoughts would be terrific and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am printing ours directly from reports, and have been told that they need to be improved upon.

I would appreciate any examples or suggestions.

Help! Has anyone experienced a slow running schedule? I started a "schedule students" at 11:30 yesterday and it is almost 24 hours and still not done. I am going to open a case but I can't until it is done.

I have a really over-the-top server, so it can't be that.

We have 1230 students, 9-12 school.

7 day rotation

I am in a school that currently uses a 6-day rotation. We are considering switching to a 7-day rotation and I am interested in hearing from anyone that uses a 7-day rotation and how that has worked out, especially if you have recently switched from a 5 or 6-day rotation up to a 7-day. We are in the process of completely recreating our schedule configuration and so are interested to hear what is working for other schools. (This is an upper school of approximately 350 students.) Scheduling Year Long Courses

Our core courses are year long, and we want students to take them in the same period with the same teacher in each of the semesters. But (this year) we divided them into 2 semester courses. The program does not recognize the parameters above. How do others of you mark your courses for scheduling? and how does that work for you?

Generate Master Schedule Bumps Homeroom Teacher Out Of Homeroom

We have a nine period day. A teacher is assigned to a room as his HOMEROOM and has 5 classes to teach. The other 4 periods are assigned to two other courses, and that specific room is listed in the course record as the only resource for those two classes. Generate Master Schedule is not only NOT placing those additional courses in that room, it also is bumping the homeroom assigned teacher out of his room for other classes. I looked this up in the Knowledgebase (BB360614) which reads as follows: [blue](Homeroom)Teachers are not given priority of other teachers when scheduling for a room unless the room is designated as the teacher's homeroom . . . AND the room record is set to schedule only homeroom teachers in the room. . . . In order to make sure teachers are scheduled in their rooms before any other teacher is scheduled in the room, schedule the teacher's classes [b]MANUALLY[/b] for the room.[/blue] (CAPS are my editorializing). So what is the point of assigning a homeroom? Does this not seem to defeat the whole purpose of having a program to do scheduling? The purpose of the automatic scheduler, I would think, is to determine which of the nine periods are the best for that homeroom teacher's 5 classes, the periods with the least conflicts. If I have to schedule his classes manually I would just be shooting in the dark. Logic tells me that the heirarchy of scheduling should be 1) the homeroom teacher, 2) classes specifically asigned to that room, 3) other classes if space is left over. Am I just nuts? Scheduling Faculty Lunches

We have three lunch periods (5,6,7) and each faculty member needs to have at least one of those periods free. I cannot figure out how to do that using the automatic Generate Master Schedule. Student Scheduling

I'm almost ready to begin generating schedules for students, but since this is not only my first time using Blackbaud but also my first time doing scheduling, I'm wondering if any of you have any recommendations regarding whether to schedule students by class, e.g., Freshmen, Sophomores, etc., or by entire student body? Scheduling Elementary Students

Our school schedules elementary students different than it does high school. For this reason, the administrators already have the elementary schedule down and decided (i.e.: it is already been decided who is in what class with what teacher when). Basically, each student stays in one room with one teacher (who teachers every subject) for the entire day (each day is the same setup in the week). Since we already know the schedule, we do not need EE to generate one for us. Is there an easy way to assign students to teachers with courses/classes so that FAWEB will work without having to go through all the trouble of assigning course requests, etc. Thanks. I am trying to schedule 2 half credit courses in a school that is full year with 3 trimesters (ie the ontario ministry of education required civics and guidance) Any suggestions how best to accomplish this task?

How to Use the Prerequisites Function For Course Requests

We just upgraded to Education Edge 7. We never used the Prerequisites function before. Working with our trainer this week I entered some prerequisites but the only option if one is going to use a certain grade for prerequisites is: EARNED FULL CREDIT AND RECEIVED A GRADE OF ____ That's not the exact wording (I am not at school) but that's the gist of it. We start our course requests in late winter when there is a Semester 1 grade but NO credit has been awarded, let alone FULL credit. Full credit is earned at the end of the year but who does course requests in June ? If you use the Prequisites function could you explain what for and how you use it?
