Publishing report cards to NetClassroom

We are considering publishing report cards to NetClassroom for the fist time at the end of the semester (January). For anyone who has already done this -- successfully or unsuccessfully -- I would appreciate any advice you can give.

Shared Documents in NetClassroom

When trying to access a document that has been attached by a teacher via FAWeb, the parent is brought to a login screen for FAWeb. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Using PHP and cURL you can easily authenticate users using NetClassroom.

You will have to create a login page with a form that contains username and password fields, and then post it to the file below:

We have NetClassroom running in HTTPS on IIS, if you dont (you should) remove the following line:

curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, 0);

The script takes the username and password and then using cURL sends it to the NetClassroom login.aspx page where it scrapes the authentication information from the cookie. Because the way NC was designed you can not scrape any information off of the NC pages (they use javascript for everything) but we can authenticate users securely.

A successfull login will say: Sucessfull Login!

A failed login will say: Login Failed

Due to posting limitations here I had to modify the $viewstate variable - it should be on ONE line.

How do you ensure that teachers post on a regular basis?

Hi folks,

We have been using NetClassroom for a year and half. We now need to tighten up on those teachers that procrastinate posting thier grades. Is there a report or log file that an administrator could look at to see which teachers have updated thier grades and which ones have not?

We used to have the same problem with attendance when we first implemented FAWeb. But after a couple weeks of running the Attendance Taken Reprot and reminding those teachers that forgot, the problem went away as teachers just got into the habit. Is there something similiar for NetClassroom?

I have recently had parents complain about the display of information in Netclassroom 7 when using Apple's Safari browser. It appears to me that the tables are not properly interpreted. The Safari browser shows two, thin, vertical columns on the left side of the pane, while a PC using Internet explorer expands the table to fill the pane.

Is there a solution I can offer these Mac using parents?

Over the years I have heard parents complain that they can't get NetClassroom to work properly. After telling them to get their kids to help them, I decided to be nice and create some help videos. I purchased a $25 ear mount microphone and downloaded some free screen video capture software. The video capture software is called CamStudio. It is very easy to use and saves your files in a standard video format. It is also free. To get CamStudio, go to www.camstudio.org Our school has a photo sharing website with Smugmug, www.smugmug.com They allow video to be uploaded and viewed. If you don't have a photo sharing website, you an probably put them on your own website. I created a help topic on everything I could think of and then put a Help button on our NetClassroom login page of our website. How are other schools handling this? You can make the change in Netclassroom but it does not allow for changes to email and phone data.

Online Course Requests

I have been working with OCR's on my test system so that we can use this feature in the Spring. It seems to be pretty straight forward. I just have a couple of questions for those of you who have done this before.

1. We offer Weight Training as a one semester class either in the Fall or the Spring. Football players want to take it in the Fall and Baseball in the Spring. There is no way for a student to specify which term in NetClassroom so my question is, how do you handle a one semester class? I was thinking of just having a student who is in this situation either email me or come by my office. What do you do about this?

2. I have been playing with Reports and can see what students have requested which classes. My question is, how do we know what students have not even bothered to do their OCR, or do you care about that. I guess that if they don't do it they just won't get enrolled in any classes.

If you know of any "gotchas" in any areas of OCR's, please let me know.

NetClassroom - Shared Class Documents

I have had a number of parents say that when they try to open a Shared Document in a Class on NetClassroom, they get a "page not found" message. Not all parents have this problem. I login as the parent and it works fine. I have had them check such things as making sure they have Word installed instead of Works, etc. I have also had them check to see if they have pop-ups blocked. Most of these parents are using IE6 or IE7. They don't pay me enough to go to people's houses to troubleshoot stuff like this so I would like to hear if anyone else has had this situation and found something that relates to this like IE settings, Anti Virus or Anti Spam software.

Guidelines for teachers

We are currently using FAWeb and are looking to implement NetClassroom soon. Does your school have any teacher rules for how soon assignment grades should be entered after the tests/papers/hws are given out to the students? If so, who enforces these rules and how? We still have a few faculty who just use FAWeb to post the final letter grade and don't put in numerical assignment grades. Any advice on how to get them on board? Or, does parental pressure provide enough of a push?

Logon Screen Loops back to blank screen

Since the upgrade to 7.70.638.0025 I have had several parents call me with NetClassroom logon troubles. Some logon and the screen returns to a blank logon screen. Some logon successfully, then click on student grade and get booted out to the logon screen. One reported that she can see one child's grades fine, changes to the second child and gets booted out to the logon screen. I have tried to get some of them to use the KB answers about trusted sites, enable cookies, but none have worked. All of the logons work fine when I attempt in or out of the office, so it appears to be local PC problems that did not exist until my upgrade. Anyone have any ideas? THanks! I have a parent who can get into NetClassroom just find but when they try to click on any links they get the LOADING message then PAGE NOT FOUND (or maybe CANNOT BE DISPLAYED). This seems to be caused by their home network setup since they've tested a computer on another network and it worked fine but not when they brought it back into their home network. Any suggestions?? Grades in Netclassroom

Here at Harrisburg Academy, we are new to using Netclassroom this year, and have decided at this point to post only report card grades. Before we make any decisions to turn on quarterly running totals or daily grades, we would like to know from any schools that are using these more informative web postings if they have had any particularly notable feedback, either good or bad, from faculty, parents or students. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with these experiences.

This new version of Net Classroom does not allow you to print assignments. Any copy and pasted assignments become distorted if they show a toolbar...does anybody else have this issue?

NetClassroom not letting users in errors

We have just told our parents/students to go to NetClassroom to access their schedules. We have 1100 students. Since then, we have had numerous outages where the user logs in, but gets an error and cannot access anything in NetClassroom. We suspect this is related to bunches and bunches of login sessions. Once this happens, no one can login until we bounce IIS (iisreset). We are very concerned. Anyone else have any history with large numbers of NetClassroom sessions? Setting up Student Course Requests

The main reason we purchased NetClassroom was to assist in the mammoth task of entering student course requests to assist us with the Blackbaud Scheduler. The main problem we have found is there does not seem to be a way to restrict what courses a student can request other than simple GRADE LEVEL restrictions. We place strict limits on what options a student has based on their current enrollment and performance. We are looking for a way to limit course options for our students based upon a set of criteria. Core ciricula will not work as we have far too many scenarios to load and it would not be feasible. Does anyone else have this issue when it comes to Net ClassRoom course requests?

First Time Using NEtClassroom

However, does anyone know if there is a way to have a message "pop up" for those families whose reports are being held that says maybe "call the school" or something to that effect? Thanks!
