On Tuesday, December 2 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. ET, we are having a Faculty Access for the Web Support Roundtable. Willow Schultz and Nate Hall, our Education Solution Product Support Leads, will discuss all things Faculty Access for the Web. The roundtable is broken into sections with a question-and-answer period in between. The sections cover:

Supervisor setup
Teacher setup
Posting grades, comments, and skills to Grades in The Education Edge
Comment approval

Viewing Student EXLORE/PLAN/ACT Test info in FAWEB

Greetings,

Does anyone know if there is a way for teachers to see student test data (from their test tab in records) in FAWEB? It would be incredibly useful for teachers to have ready access to that information when developing lessons and summative assessments.

I have heard that grades from moodle can be imported to FAWEB. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, where can I learn more?

Shared Documents Vs. Assignments

Our teachers prefer to post their assignments as shared documents. The issue is that in doing so families have to go to each class to get the document. Anyone else having a similar issue? Any suggestions?

Reviewing, Editing and Posting Grades

Is there a way to make one person responsible for reviewing, editing and posting grades?

My issue is that I have an administrator that gets and email from teachers that says grades are ready for review. At that point the Administrator goes in and reviews the grades, skills and comments. She would like to edit their comments if they have any, and then change the status to Ready. At that point she would like to post the grades herself.

I have changed her settings numerous times but can not seem to get her to be able to do all three things herself.

FAW external access help

I am having some difficulty in getting FAW pointing externally. We had it set up initially for internal use only. I had another company setup the SSL piece for security purposes. My question is this? when I go into IIS Manager, I have a default website which points to c:\inetpub\wwwroot - if I change this to the actual location of FAW it works fine. I guesss I not 100% sure if this is where the change needs to be made? Or should there be something else I am doing?

Monitoring posts on Faculty Access

I was wondering how other schools were monitoring teachers posting to Faculty Access. We have teachers who don't regularly post assignments and grades, even though they are required to do so. The only way I know of to monitor it is to log into Faculty Access as a Supervisor and search gradebooks. This is very time consuming and therefore is not getting done as often as it should.

I wonder if someone has come up with a better way to do this. I would appreciate any ideas.

We have some classess that only display 4 or 5 names at a time on the attendance screen on FA WEb. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know how to change it so the teacher can view all the students at once?

Browsers for FA Web

Is anyone out there using a browser other than Internet Explorer for FA Web? In particular, I'm looking for those who are using Firefox but am open to any and all comments/suggestions.

We are having issues with FA Web locking up at times or simply just shutting down in the middle of a session, which makes it a hard sell for our teachers to use. I am hoping another browser might provide more stability in conjuction with the network upgrades/improvements we've done this summer.

Comment length

We have a very individualized report card with 2 or 3 different comment lengths per report card. For example the English comment is longer than the Drama comment, etc. Currently, EE only allows you to regulate comment length by school. We are having a real hard time with teachers getting the shorter comments to the correct length. We recently switched from a custom written program that visually showed them when they were going over. Does anyone else have this same issue and how have you overcome it?

we want to make a task for all our teachers. In our Elementary school, we want that all teachers have the same categories for all theirs classes, the problem y that each teacher, must capture the same categories, for the same classes...

can we improve it? can we make it automaticaly?

I just set up FAWEB 7.77 on a test server an I was wondering if anyone in this forum has been using or testing this version. I like the comment approval feature, but I am not sure how I my grade proofers will be able to review student skill ratings. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can implement skill proofing?

Gradebook Training

I am looking for someone willing to train me so that I can help the teachers at our school with the gradebook option of FAWeb. Our school started using FAWeb for attendence this year but has chosen to opnly use the gradebook for marking periods. I am using the gradebook and learning as I go but there are a lot of teachers that want to use it but we will get no training.

Providing teachers access to FA Web via internet

Are there any institutions out there that allow teachers access to FA Web via the internet? We have 2 campuses and grading becomes an issue since it can be quite time consuming. Our teachers have been requesting access via the internet so they can work on grades at home. Has anyone done this and if so can you share your experience with the group?

Timing out sessions for users

I was wondering if it is possible for the system to time out the users on education edge, who have been idle for 20 to 30 minutes? or if there is any work around. We have users who needs to be log on for the entire day but other users should be logged off after being idle for half an hour. Please leve me know if there is any solution to this.

How to setup FAWEB7 so it can be accessed from home or outside the intranet

We currently have FAWEB7 configured and installed on the intranet. It's installed on Win2003 server. Has anyone configured FAWEB to be accessed from home or outside the school's intranet. And if so, would you mind sharing the neccessary steps to make this happen?

How Many FAWeb errors in Event Viewer Application Log per day?

I have 30 teachers using FAweb for attendance and gradebook. I generally log about 5 FAWeb errors daily. Once a month, usage is heavy when teachers are under deadline to post comments and that error count might get up around 15 per day. Early on, most of our issues were caused by hitting the back button, or session time outs but must folks have learned their way out of that. But still, 9 months later, things are quiter but there are still way more errors logged than I'd like to see with any application - and teachers still hate it. I get regular enough complaints of disappearing attendance from the computer science teacher that I think there might be something to it. Despite knowing not to let there sessions time out or use back, people constantly loose a screen full of data entry and have to start over.

Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Missing Assignments

In Faculty Access, teachers often leave the grade of an assignment blank when they are giving a particular student extra time to turn it in. However if they leave it blank, the assignment doesn't show up in the Grades section of NetClassroom. Does anybody know of a way they can get the assignment to show without putting an M or an X?
