Uninstalling Financial Edge

My organization no longer maintains/uses Financial Edge (since 2005) Our IT department would like to clean up our server. Is it an issue to uninstall Financial Edge? I have never used Financial Edge and am unsure how it relates to Raiser's Edge if at all.

Any advice would be helpful

The Financial Edge & HR Systems

I am wondering what software systems Financial Edge users are using to handle Human Resoruce records and information. Does your software integrate with FE?

We use an older version of Sage ABRA (FoxPro edition) and we continue to have more and more reasons to look at alternatives or a major upgrade to what we have. Having something that can link up with FE and share employee information would be icing on the cake.

Fixed assets

Up until this month our organization has entered fixed assets and calculated depreciation on a monthly basis in the Fixed Asset module of Financial Edge. Our finance director would like to change our current procedure and record fixed assets as an expense during the year, then reclass the assets to capitalize them and calculate depreciation at the end of each year. Is anyone who is using the fixed asset module currently "expensing" fixed assets during the year, then capitalizing the assets and calculating depreciation at the end of each year? How can we set this up and what problems would we encounter?

Fixed Assets

Does anyone have experience with the fixed asset module in FE? Once I dispose of an asset it continues to

show up each month when I calculate the depreciation for the month. It is listed as an "exception" at the bottom of the report.

Does it stay on there forever? Should it?

Hard close in Financial Edge

Has anyone hard closed a prior year after six years? Does anyone know if we will encounter any problems if we perform a hard close of year 2002 in 2009? Any warnings or suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated. (Our organization has always soft-closed each month to prevent recording in a previous month, but has never done a hard close.).

Transaction Attribute

We would like to have add field on our transaction entry where we can fill in a description of what is purchased or being charged. I know I can create a transaction attribute that is a text field for this, but is there any way I can get this "field" to show up on reports?

Fixed Asset Scanner

Blackbaud recommends the Falcon 310 scanner for compatibility with the FE7 Fixed Assets Module, however the product is discontinued. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Financial Edge Users

Hello!

We are a small foundation and are considering the purchase of Financial Edge not only because it integrates with Raiser's Edge but also because it will allow us to manage our own accounts which are now being handled by the Hospital accounting office.

My questions for current users is, do you need to have financial accounting experience in order to understand and use this software? I am the main Raiser's Edge user and learned Quickbooks on my own but have no formal training as a bookkeeper. If this software is as complicated as it seems, we might need to hire someone with bookkeeping experience. Any thoughts??

Income Statements

Our income statements are run and saved by Programs, and we want to be able to save the reports on a nuetral drive within

our network so all programs can view and print as they wish, using Crystal reports. My question is: Do I have to have

cyrstal reports on all program computers or just our nuetral drive? Or at all?

Integration of Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge

Our agency is using both the FE & RE, but it is not integrated yet. We are thinking of doing it in the near future. Can we have feedbacks how successful/helpful if by doing so or if it is a bad idea? Is it a lot of work to begin with? We want to hear the pros and cons. If there is an agency from Los Angeles, CA who have a successful FE & RE integration can we get in touch with you? Thanks a lot.

Advanced Budget Management

We just viewed a webinar on ABM, and our account rep is on vacation, so I thought I'd see if anyone else could answer this really quickly.

If anyone is using ABM, can you tell me what the costs are (both initial purchase and annual maintenance)? Also, do you know if this replaces Budget Management (which we already have) or is this an add-on?

FE Version 7.77.245 (?)

Has anyone upgraded to Financial edge 7.77.245? I noticed they are on patch 2 after only 7 days.

For those of you who have upgraded, is it worth it? We are experiencing performance and data entry issues in Payroll 7 in version 7.75.259 patch 15. I am hoping the upgrade will resolve some of the issues we are having, but I do not want to introduce others.

SQL Reporting Services and Financial Edge

I am trying to use Reporting Services to make reports from FE visible to our staff. I am new to both resources and am wondering if anyone else out there is/has tackled this project? I have a few questions and have hit a few road blocks. Thanks!

Reports are very slow to run

We started doing allocations last year for 100 classrooms and it has slowed report running down considerably. Most reports take 5 minutes or so to run. The larger summary reports in FE can take much longer. The server is a dual Xeon with 4GB ram running 2003 standard and SQL 2000 and our db is almost 3GB. What can I do to improve report speed other than the maintance console?
