Naming Opportunities

We have given our donors an opportunity to name rooms in a new building if their gifts are at certain levels. We have about 10-15 donors that have taken advantage of this and I want to capture this information on their donor record. I want to be able to query on it and report on it too.

I have looked into using the gift attribute, which works but my colleagues want the information on the donor record in a more obvious place. Where do others store this information?

Since I joined the National Parkinson Foundation seven years ago, we have consistently struggled to determine the appropriate staffing levels for our gift processing area. We have fluctuated between two to three data entry personnel, but this past winter a staff of three was not sufficient and we had to bring in a temp. We are currently considering outsourcing our gift entry process to a caging company, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I'd really like to compare notes with another organization that processes around 2,500 to 3,000 gifts per month, some of which are labor-intensive tribute gifts.

7.85 vs. 7.80 - Upgrade for Raiser's Edge

The Saint Francis Foundation is currently using 7.80. Where can I go and find out reasons why we should upgrade to 7.85?

I have looked at the release notes and it appears that 7.85 deals with a lot of solicitors and teams...something we don't use often.

What are the advantages for 7.85?

I don't need a manual, I found that. What I would like to see is a summary of why we should upgrade to 7.85 and what are the benefits

Donor Recognition

We will be opening a new cancer center in a couple of months, across from our hospital and moving the current center out of the hospital location. We have a number of named spaces in the current location and will not be moving the namings to the new space. We will be placing a recognition display in the new facility acknowledging these prior donors and thanking them for their support.

How have other organizations handled this and how have you recognized previous major donors whose namings may have not transferred to the new space? I am also having issues as to how to reference their giving and its connection to the old space.

Does anyone track work completed in RE for quality indicators? We currently track how quickly data is entered into the database compared to the deposit date and have consistently met our goal. I would like to add some new items to track for improved quality in our work.

Identify donors who are inpatients

Our leadership makes rounds every day to visit inpatients and I am wondering if there is some way that the software system that holds our inpatient demographics could be run through raisers edge for a comparison and the list of patients who are our current donors be flagged? In other words, how do others identify if one of their donors is a current inpatient in their hospital other than going through the inpatient list one by one for comparison.

I found a universal pharmacy coupon that you can get via text message. The savings vary by drug and anyone can use it. I showed the text to my pharmacist and she enters the coupon numbers. She also added the coupon to my account so I get the discount every time. You can text TXTCPN to 368266 to get the coupon. There is no charge outside of what you pay for text messages (but who doesn't have unlimited txtng anyway!) and you can use it as many times as you want, even forward it to others. Cheers!

Stimulus change to Fundraising under HIPAA

I was wondering what other health care organizations are doing in relations to the Stimulus currently going through Congress.

If you haven't already heard about it, the Stimulus package passed by the House redefines fundraising as NOT a part of healthcare operations. This would effectively prevent any access to patient demographics currently allowed under HIPAA without written authorization from the patient.

We're mobilizing our boards and government relations folks to reach out to our legislators. We're also trying to coordinate with AHP and AFP for efforts from that end.

Does anyone use McKesson Patient Datasystem?

Our hospital is going to be switching from our current patient datasystem, Meditech, to McKesson over the next couple of years. I am wondering if anyone's hospital/healtcare facility currently uses this datasystem. If so, do you find it easy to be able to integrate your current donors into this system. We have many donors marked as VIPS and want to get a feel if this is easy or complicated if you use this datasystem. Thank you.

Notifications to Surviving Family Members - Best Business Practices

I work at a Hospice Organization and we receive a lot of gifts in Memory of a loved one.

I am able to check the database of patients to see who the primary contact was for the deceased individual, and in most cases can locate one and that is generally the person we send a notification to. However, in some cases there are donors that provide us with a specific individual that they would like us to notify (another sibling, aunt, uncle, etc.)

Recently we had an individual call and question as to why she and her sister have received different individuals on their lists.

What are others doing as a general business practice when they have more than 1 individual to notify? Does every person that you have get the same list?

Anyone using an external message board?

Reverse Transactions

We have several instances in which we must reverse a transaction such as when someone reserves a ticket, can't attend and then requests a refund.

How do you do this? Is there any way to enter a reverse transaction without doing an adjustment?

Donor Wall

We are currently in the process of upgrading our donor wall. The wall has not been updated for some time and the look of wall is changing. Some of the donors that are currently on the wall may not have all of their giving history entered in Raisers Edge (due to lack of computerized record keeping in the early years), so when the information is exported from Raisers Edge they may not fit the current donor wall criteria. We want to ensure that if they are listed on the current wall that they appear on the new wall. I would like to add a code somewhere on their constituent record indicating that even though their giving level information in Raisers Edge is not at the minimum level required to appear on the donor wall they are on the wall because of their historical giving.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what this code could be and where I could put this information?
