POSITION DESCRIPTION
SALARY GRADE:
REPORTS TO: Senior Campaign Director, Interim VP of Marketing
JOB SUMMARY: The Development and Marketing Writer is responsible for drafting and editing print and electronic materials related to the development, marketing, public relations and communications operations at the Village, including proposals and grant applications, gift acknowledgements, donor and grant reports, press releases, internal and external newsletters, and website copy. In addition, the writer will assist with research and website maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with the Campaign Director and the VP of Marketing to produce, edit, and manage written and electronic materials such as newsletters, press releases, magazine and website copy, letters of inquiry, grant proposals, gift acknowledgements, stewardship reports, and grant reports.
· Prepare foundation and corporate grant proposals.
· Draft donor and prospect communications for the President and or members of the Board as needed.
· Draft and edit all individual donor stewardship reports and foundation grant reports.
· Work with program directors to obtain key news items to ensure an accurate flow of current information to external audiences.
· Write and edit marketing and press-oriented communications, including external and internal newsletters (print and electronic), press releases, magazine and website articles, donor profiles, and related materials.
· Prepare development correspondence for a variety of internal and external audiences.
· Conduct foundation and other fundraising related research.
· Maintain departmental pages on agency website
· Perform other department or agency-related duties or special projects as assigned.
· BA or BS degree in English, communications, or a related field.
· Three to five years professional experience in grant writing. Knowledge of social service agencies and programs a plus.
· Demonstrated superior writing, editing, and oral communications skills, with an ability to write for multiple audiences. Must be able to persuasively convey The Village’s mission to diverse groups, including donors, foundation and corporate executives, partnering non-profits, community and state representatives, media and staff.
· Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office. Raiser's Edge knowledge and experience a plus.
· Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and producing a high volume of written work. Maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy is essential.
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
· Ability to be function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
