    Database Systems Manager - Toronto, ON

    Reporting to the IT Director, you will work with all departments throughout the school ensuring that Education Edge (Blackbaud) and the supporting databases at Upper Canada College are functioning properly.  The Database Systems Manager takes the lead on development of reports, functionality, and applications needed for student administration.

    You will research, plan, implement and support database systems used for student administration.  You will act as project manager on small and large scale projects involving the IT department and operational staff to meet the unique needs of the academic and operational departments in the school. The Database Systems Manager will work proactively and is self-motivated with a strong desire and demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.  The ability to negotiate and compromise on many competing priorities is essential.  You will co-ordinate and supervise the activities of the Academic Application Programmer.  Excellent communication skills, interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills will be used on a daily basis.

    Required Skills
    •    A post-secondary degree (university or college; 2 yr minimum) with specialization in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related discipline.
    •    Minimum 1-3 years experience administering a large relational database system, preferably in an academic setting.  Experience developing data interfaces, data transfer and data manipulation using automated tools.
    •    Advanced knowledge of database administration concepts, tools and best practices.  Expert knowledge of at least one large-scale relational database system (for example, SQL Server 2003, Oracle, SAP).
    •    Knowledge of Education Edge highly desirable.  Knowledge of other Blackbaud products (Financial Edge, Raiser’s Edge) a significant asset.
    •    Advanced scripting and programming skills including some or all of the following: Java, Javascript, ASP.NET, VB, C++/C#.
    •    Knowledge of scripting
    •    Advanced knowledge of Crystal Reports XI.
    •    Advanced knowledge of Web technologies, including HTML, DHTML, XML, and IIS.
    •    Knowledge of K-12 reporting/transcript requirements highly desirable.
    •    Supervisory and mentoring skills.
