    Development Assistant job opening, American Jewish Historical Society

    Responsible for the American Jewish Historical Society’s Raiser’s Edge database, and for acknowledgements, fulfillment, reporting, and other administrative tasks. The Development Assistant provides assistance to the Development Director and Associate Director of Development, who coordinate direct mail, events, and other relevant fundraising activities. These actions support the department’s main objective, to ensure that donors feel that they are contributing to a worthy cause and will have reason to contribute again in the future.

    The Development Assistant is present at all fundraising events and programs and helps to ensure their success. The Development Assistant is knowledgeable about all AJHS activities and is ready to answer any questions that members or non-members have.

    Founded in 1892, the American Jewish Historical Society is the oldest national ethnic historical organization in the United States. AJHS’ library, archives, photograph, and art and artifacts collections document the American Jewish experience. AJHS is one of five partner organizations at the Center for Jewish History in New York.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (approx. 80%):
    - Track and process all incoming contributions, including in-house mail, direct mail, event, online and unsolicited gifts
    - Maintain Raiser's Edge database, entering all contributions, and continuously refining and building its donor files to ensure its accuracy, integrity, and value
    - Prepare and mail daily donor acknowledgement letters
    - Prepare checks for deposit via transmittals, and process credit card transactions
    - Coordinate periodic mass mailings
    - Respond to members’ and other questions
    - Fulfill standard donor perquisites and special donor requests
    - Produce periodic pledge payment invoices
    - Develop and produce standard monthly development reports for board and staff
    - Serve as in-house Raiser’s Edge trainer and encourage the thorough use of the system and all its modules for day-to-day operating needs

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (approx. 20%):
    - Staff the reception desk when the receptionist is out
    - Support office functions, including supply purchasing, occasional deliveries, mailings, restocking brochures, etc.
    - Conduct funding prospect research
    - Assist with production of grant proposals and other funding packets as needed
    - Other tasks as assigned from time to time.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Training: B.A.; Raiser’s Edge training or certificate desirable.

    Work Experience: One year or more working in a non-profit office with a donor database.

    Skills and Abilities: Strong communication skills on the phone and in writing; extremely detail oriented; proficient in Microsoft Office suite in addition to Raisers Edge.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Don't you just love that job openings in NY never tell you where they are, I guess we are suppose to know all the non-profits in NYC.
