Hello,
We're new to RE and are just ready to install Crystal Reports. I have a few super basic questions I'm hoping someone can help answer.
1. Should we install Crystal Reports on the same server as RE? (We have second where most of our data/files live).2. Since we only have the one license, will we be able to view reports on workstation A that were created on workstation B?
Thanks!
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer
1 - I have Crystal installed on my workstation due to the license issue, rather than the server.
2 - Once you have created a report you can create a link in Raiser's Edge
Go to Reports -> Custom Reports -> Click 'New' and link the Export you created to the Crystal Report you have written, save and then every user of RE will be able to run the report.
Hope that's clear, if not I'll be happy to explain further.
Peter
There are two parts to Crystal. There is the report designer and the runtime. When you install Crystal, you're installing the report designer, and it should be installed on the workstation of the person who will be writing your Crystal Reports.
The runtime is automatically installed on the server and each workstation when Raiser's Edge is installed. This allows everyone with RE access to run reports without requiring the report designer on their workstation.

We are planning on installing Crystal Reporting on a second workstation and our IT department has asked me how we are supposed to obtain a second license for Crystal. Do we obtain a second Crystal Reporting installation CD directly from Blackbaud? Wasn't exactly sure how this works since I wasn't here when Crystal was originally installed. Any info you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated!

Go to your account manager. Ours quoted us a price for additional licenses (I have four people who write Crystal). It is considerably more cost effective than trying to go to Crystal to get your licenses and when you call in for support, you'll be in a better position.
Thanks for the info. Sounds like good advice.
