    NetSolutions

My organization is currently using the Raiser's Edge. We are considering NetSolutions for online donations and communications. I would like to hear other users' experiences of both the pros and cons. I'd also like to hear about what happened to giving to your organization after implementing online donations. If you use another produce besides NetSolutions, please share about that as well.

    Re: NetSolutions

We have been using NetDonor and NetEvent for about 5 years or so. We also have NetMail but have only used it a few times.

Frankly, we've never been thrilled with NetSolutions, especially NetEvent. They are very cookie cutter and limiting because of that. We're a large, complicated healthcare system and would like greater flexibility in structuring and relating our pages. NetSolutions isn't cut out for that. However, it is inexpensive - which is why we still use it. We still don't believe that online giving is going to be a major avenue for giving and have been unwilling to make a greater investment (either building something ourselves or going with Convio, Kintera, or NetCommunity). Both NetDonor and NetEvent are significantly better than they were when they were first introduced and much more flexible. But they are still somewhat of a one size fits all solution.

That said - they have been mostly reliable. Support has been a little weak when we've run into problems, however, we discovered that restoring a backup of our RE database to a test server allows us to redownload any transactons we had trouble with - which has allowed us to self-diagnose most problems.

If you have pretty straight forward, uncomplicated needs, NetSolutions could be a good fit for you. For more complicated needs, I would look elsewhere.

    Mitch
