Idea [I] Import Layout Tables (full list of Import field ID's)

I know in RE 6 I was able to print out a complete list of all the Import Field ID's, which help a lot in generating import files.

Now for the life of me I can't seem to find a single document that gives me all of these import ID's for RE 7.  Now I'm after the base package and also additional modules (ie Tribute).  Any assistance would be great.

The search of here and the knowledge base didn't yield anything of value, and I would have thought something as fundamental as this for Importation would be glaringly obvious.

    Thank you, in advance.

Re: Import Layout Tables (full list of Import field ID's)

    SmileHi Andrew,

From the Support menu you can access the User Guides for RE7.  In the Import Guide there is a comprehensive set of Import Layout Tables that include the Raiser's Edge 7 field name, the import header field value, whether or not a field in required in that type of import, acceptable values and additional notes.  It does have information for both the standard program and layout tables.  There are also some extremely useful FAQ documents on importing including many that have sample data files that can be imported into the Sample database or used as 'templates'.  I hope this information helps but please post, if you have further questions.

    Thanks,

    Naomi

Ha!   To deal with people like me, I commend you.  I know the same silly questions you would get over the years.

Funny enough I did download the import.pdf.  I looked at the index and selected the Import Layout Tables.  Read that page, and scrolled down to the end of the next section and though ... not table data.  Ok where is it.  Seems I didn't scroll down enough.. D'oh!

Thank you for point me in the right direction, again.

Re: Import Layout Tables (full list of Import field ID's)

     Hi,

OK I'm a little perplexed.  I have an export file generated via export, it has header row and titles.

    Example:
    CnBio_ID    CnAdrSal_Salutation    CnAdrSal_Addressee    CnAdrPrf_Addrline1 ....  CnGf_1_01_Tr_1_01_Tribute_Type    CnGf_1_01_Tr_1_01_Ak_1_01_Name

I can't seem to be able to find them in any Import Field listings.  How do I get the corresponding entries for export & imports.  I'm trying to find a specific export field name for a access query, without having access to the generating db/module.

If I remember correctly, the export fields from Export don't easily match up with what you need to use for Import. Go into Administration, Import and Create a New Import of the type you want. One of the options is to Create an Import File. Use that. It exports the fields with the proper import field names. Use just one record from Include.

Re: Import Layout Tables (full list of Import field ID's)

I was hoping it wasn't the case.  I'm doing work for a third party and don't have access to the same module they use (Tribute) or their db, so am unable to generate said file myself.  So was hoping I could have gotten it from the Field Table list.  I have instructed them to generate an export file with the missing field, looks like I'll have to just wait until I can get on-site or they run the new export.

Thank you for your response Laura.

The Import Guide is available as a .pdf on the BB site, and it has all of the fields.  It is under BB Support pages as part of the User Guides.

Do you have access to the sample database?  It has all modules and you can use Import to create a header file from there.

Re: Import Layout Tables (full list of Import field ID's)

Thanks Nak, but as my second last post the Export header names don't correspond to the actual import field ID's, so the Import Guide is of no use in this situation.

I've gone with your suggestion, in sorts, Melissa.  I used the sample db to create an export file with the header information.  I just now hope I used the correct area to extract the data and get the correct export header label I was after.

    Thank you for responses.

Re: Import Layout Tables (full list of Import field ID's)

Hi, Andrew. Just to clarify, exporting the fields through Export is different from exporting them by creating an import file in Import. The latter method will generate headers that correspond with the import field IDs in the Import Guide. For more information, you may want to refer to instructions in Knowledgebase:

How to create an import file in The Raiser's Edge

    Hope this helps!

Re: Import Layout Tables (full list of Import field ID's)

Thank you for that additional information Sarah.  In this case I was already working with and export that was generated by a third party using the standard export.  It was missing a field that would be required and I wanted to add it without involving the third party.  I did find the appropriate field and add it in.

I wanted to make an automated macro to import a standard export into an Access database that could be over written each time.

Once again, thank you to all that responded.  Much appreciated.
