I posted this question earlier but apparently it never registered: when you end a constituent code with a Date To, do you stop using it altogether on gifts? For instance, a Board member pledges a gift over 10 yrs. Three years after he leaves the board. Do you continue to code future pledge payments "Board" or resort to the next valid code such as "Former Board" or "Individual/Friend"?
Hi there,
What we do at our organization, is that we would change it to Former Board, and put into general notes that he was a board member when he made this pledge. And then indicate the he, as of this date, is a former board member, and will continue to make the payments on this pledge.
Most institutions have a rule of only accepting 5 year pledges so that is what we deal with. I would continue to use the constituent code on the original pledge until the pledge is paid. In most instances you are counting the pledge in your campaign reports and not counting your pledge payments so it likely will not matter much.
