    Query on Relationships/Gifts

I am trying to find all donors who have given at least one gift of $100 or more for a tribute that they are connected to. I am having a hard time coming up with the correct results. I keep getting all relationships and not just the one of $100 or more. Can some one give me a clue?

    Kathy,

What have you tried?  What type of query are you using and what are the criteria you put in it?

I would suggest a gift query, but I am guessing you'd want a consituent query.  Try this:

(Gift amount greater then or equal to $100
    AND honor/memoial name not blank.)

I don't know that you really need the ( )'s  put just in case.

    Re: Query on Relationships/Gifts

    Melissa,

I used the query of gift date between (....) and Tribute type = InMemoryOf

Gift amount greater than or equal to $100.

This is using an Individual query type. I get all the gifts for last year that were in memory of someone and greater or equal to $100. If I then try to see if there is any relationship between the donor and gift tribute, I get alot of "stuff". I need to know if anyone with a relationship to a deceased gave more than $100 in memory of them last year.

I hope I'm not making everyone more confused....

I am now more confused about your problem.  I thought you originally said you could not limit it to 100 or more.  Have you fixed that and now have a problem adding relationships to your query output?

If you using an individual query and are adding relationships that is a one-to-many field and you will get a row added for every relationship on that record.  That is supposed to happen as query is not a reporting tool.

You should be able to see the donor's name by just outputting the name field - you can also add the tribute name field - why do you want to add relationships?

You cannot do this from the RE front end.  It requires comparing two fields to each other (deceased ID) and (tributee ID).  RE will only let you compare a field to a constant, a range of constants, or a static pattern.

This query is easy to write in SQL, if you understand SQL queries.  If you have the API, you could write a program to create a static query based on this.  If you have TIE, you can use that to create a static writeback query.

    Re: Query on Relationships/Gifts

It's getting late in the day and I'm probably rambling. I'll try to explain my problem again.

I need all donor's who are connected to a deceased (some family connection would be ideal) and who have given at least $100 in memory of this deceased person.

I've tried from different angles but cant get all info into one query.

    Re: Query on Relationships/Gifts

Is it that you want only one person per memorial?  What if more than one gave $100+?

In my opinion anyone who gave a memorial gift to someone is likely connected to that person. I do not create relationship records for them all since I don't always know the exact relationship and can do basic reporting based on the tribute gift.

Using a constituent query you should be able to get the name of the individual who gave the gift, the amount they gave and the name of the memorial person.  Because the gift is not linked to the relationship record you can not also include what the relationship is between these two people.  If you are looking for an actual RE relationship record and a specific relationship type you are getting into complicated querying likely only to be done with SQL as Drew mentioned.

You can create a gift query. Under criteria, select

    1)  "tributes - h/m name" = (the name of the deceased for whom you want to pull all those donated $100 or more)

    2)  "tributes - h/m type" = in memory of

    3)   "gift infomation - gift amount"  greater than or = $100

Output consitutent name, gift date, gift amount, tribute type & honour/memorial name etc.
